My Little Pony X Jaws

My Little Pony X Jaws

...Of all the ridiculous fangame ideas that I've ever seen, My Little Pony X Jaws is probably the one that none of us expected to ever be made. From what has been revealed so far about it the game appears to be a tech demo for The Lost Kingdom and will be very strange. For example, it takes place in an alternate ocean-themed universe with the Mane 6 being an elite fishing crew that has set out to kill Jaws after he ate the mayor. If you eventually plan on playing The Lost Kingdom when it comes I would highly recommend that you play this game first, as you can import your savegames from My Little Pony X Jaws to The Lost Kingdom, which will allow you to start at a higher level than you could otherwise.

Unfortunately there's no word yet as to when this...interesting fangame will be released, but hopefully it will be soon because I love humorous fangames. Beanseh said that he'll be releasing screenshots of the game soon, so stay tuned for that!

Minty Fresh Adventure II Tech Demo-Thing

Minty Fresh Adventure 2

A while back I was given the opportunity to try out a tech demo for Minty Fresh Adventure II, and for a holiday surprise Mark was nice enough to release what he called an "Xmas Preview Thing" to the general public. It doesn't show off much except for some new backgrounds and one of the ingame enemies, but hopefully it will make the wait for the final product somewhat easier.

Pony Chronicles Update

Pony Chronicles Tumblr

It seems Pony Chronicles has come a long way since we first posted on it during Pon-E3 2012. Today marked their second trailer release, showcasing the game so far and some of the beautiful original music. A while ago, a release date was set for late 2012/early 2013, so it hopefully we won't be in for a long wait!

My Little Mahjong

Play it here!
Hubworld has released My Little Mahjong, a ponified version of Mahjong Solitaire. The game itself is pretty simple, and aside from a few technical bugs, quite well done. There are a few different puzzle layouts to try, and you can solve them all to an instrumental version of the Find a Pet song. There's also a shuffle button in case you get stuck.

PonyCraft Video Update #7

PonyCraft: Tainted Skies
It seems that the developers of PonyCraft have decided to completely rewrite their game in C++, which means that development will probably take much longer than it would have before. To make up for it though they've released a brief update video showcasing Twilight Sparke's new abilities and voice acting by the talented Rina-chan. Not much, but at least it's something, right?

Anyhow, you can find the video update below the break. I was originally going to put it at the top of the article but figured that you would like to see the game's fabulous logo in all its glory.

MLP: RPG Housing and Graphical Updates

Over the last few weeks, MLP: RPG has gone through substantial updates, including a full graphical facelift, personal housing, and the inclusion full library of songs! Check out the longer v1.88 trailer above, and the v1.93 housing update after the break!

My Little Investigations Demo 2

It's been quite a while since Equestrian Dreamers last released a My Little Investigations demo, and now that their new one is out what does it have to offer? Nothing story-wise, but there are a bunch of minor tweaks and technical improvements. Hopefully the demo will actually work on my machine this time, but in case you want to give it a shot you can download it over at Enjoy!

Review: Stroll

I know what you're thinking: "A Pinkie Pie Platformer? I've played hundreds of those. Give it a rest, already." Well, hold your horses, so to speak. Just recently, Silly Mare Games released Stroll, which strives for an artsy, open-world feel rather than following in the hoofsteps of the rest of the genre. Does it find a successful niche, or is it just a bunch of walking around? You know where to click.

Ponyhammer First Draft

Sadly, I'm a little lacking in Warhammer experience. Hopefully, that won't be true for long! AribanDeTyral's written up a lengthy ponified version inspired by the game, and he's looking for critique on his first draft. Find the rules above, break out the blind bags, and play some tabletop ponies!

My Little Pony RPG: The Elements of Harmony

MLP RPG: The Elements of Harmony
Update 2: the link now points to a game version with some initial feedback implemented.

Man, you guys just keep cranking out these RPGs of epic dimensions! With 20-25 hours of advertised gameplay, Nurse Dashie has put together a game I'm not even ashamed to say I haven't finished yet. All you fans of pony games which you can really sink some time into: listen up! This might be just your cup of tea. More after the break!

MLP: Online Sprite Sheet Dump

A little while ago, I got a chance to commiserate with one of you over the gradual disappearance of Desktop Ponies. Although I'm saddened that MLP:Online came to such an abrupt end, it's cloud has a silver lining: enough free pony sprites to power an army of fan games. Find them here!

To Urimas, and the rest of the MLP:Online team: thanks for your generosity. You deserve a salute from all of us here at EQG. To the rest of you: what are you waiting for? Get to work!

Pony Joust

Ok, I know it's tricky to stay angry at Rainbow Dash after this morning's episode - but in the season premiere, she knocked best pony flying in a jousting match. That sort of behavior is inexcusable.

Thanks to NutcaseNightmare, creator of Pony Wings, now you can make her pay! Um... if that's alright by you. You could also get knocked repeatedly in the mud. Engage in the sport of pegasi champions in this quick, sleek pony jousting game.

MLP:Online Shut Down

If you have visited MLP:Online's website at all during November you would have noticed that the game was no longer available for download, with an announcement that the game was no longer under development. No details were given as to why this might have been the case, but today our suspicions were confirmed in that the project had been taken down by Hasbro for copyright reasons. All hope is not lost, however, as the developers have stated that they are going to begin work on a new MLP-related fangame, and will give details on how to help fairly soon.

Anyhow, in case you want to read the original announcement you can do so via this link or just go down and read beyond the break.

Magic Duel Episode Minigame Compilation Post

Sweet mother of Celestia, that was quite an episode last weekend. In just a few days, it's spawned loads of fan content - including games, of course. Astounded? Don't thank me, thank sparklepeep, FearlessPie, and SylrePony! More after the break.

Pony Tactics: Salvation

Pony Tactics: Salvation
For some reason it seems that nearly all of the of non-Flash My Little Pony fangames are RPGs, and most of which are announced are never heard from again and forgotten. This is probably due to the fact that making a decent RPG takes a lot of time and effort, which often proves to be too much for many developers to handle. A small team calling themselves "Slammin' is Jammin'" have recently announced their upcoming RPG and released a promotional video that shows off some interesting concept art and...less than impressive gameplay (although to be fair the game is still in the pre-alpha stages, so that is to be expected).

Will Pony Tactics: Salvation ever be released? I have no idea, but you can find their promo video and some more information on the game after the break.

Lyra's List #8

It's time once again for Lyra's List! There are quite a few submissions this time around, so you should definitely take a look after the break. For those of you who don't know what Lyra's List is, you can find out all about it here. The submissions deadline for Lyra's List #9 is December 31, 2012. Let's get this started - you can find the submissions after the break...

Canterlot Siege Comes to Android

There seems to be a decent portion of the fandom that is addicted to playing Canterlot Siege, and Nitrouspony has decided to feed their addiction with an Android port of the game. Now I don't play Canterlot Siege myself that much, but for those that do (and aren't iOS users, who'll have to wait a bit longer for a port) this must be a godsend. Interested in giving the port a shot? You can download the .apk file over at Have fun!

Rainbow Dash Brawl Mod Trailer & Beta

So, I know you guys like Super Smash Bros. Brawl built around ponies - how about ponies inserted into Brawl? Spearheaded by turbobear, this project currently includes several skins for Rainbow Dash (including Scootaloo and WonderBolt) and a variety of moves. While it's far from finished, you can download the current build here.

The project is currently in growth mode: the team is looking for an animator, a modeler, and an additional code monkey to finish up Dash and begin work on the rest of the Mane 6. If you're interested, or just want to follow the project, the official thread can be found here. Have fun!

Ye Old Time Foal Slapping Simulator

Ahhh, it's good to be back!

While I was off hunting Wompas in the hinterland, Sparklepeep over on DeviantArt released the next season 3 minigame. Nothing fancy: just whack Babs Seed to keep her in the air, and try to launch her as high as possible! For the first half of last Saturday's episode, I was ready to smack her myself.

So, how does the whole minigame-an-episode concept sit with you? Do current pony games in small doses hit the spot, or do they waste your time? Tell us in the comments.

Bonus: find the season opener minigame here.

Minty Fresh Adventure II Preview

I have many fond memories of Mark Sprague's Pony Platforming Project series, and the first game in the series happens to be the subject of my very first review on Equestria Gaming.  However it has been over half a year since the third game was released, and I had somehow nearly forgotten about the series when Mark sent me a couple emails saying that the wonderful folks over at The Brony Show had played a demo of the unreleased fourth game and gave us permission to put the entire series up on the Arcade (yay!). He also let me try out the tech demo and while I'm not allowed to share it with you folks I can tell you a little bit about the game and show you a couple screenshots. Of course you could always watch episode 76 of The Brony Show and skip ahead 32 minutes for the interview/gameplay footage, but in case you don't want to sit through all that you can head on below the break and see what we've got.

Gravity Pony

Happy U.S. Thanksgiving, everypony! Regardless of where you live, November's as good a time as any to eat good food and play pony video games. Because that's what this holiday is for... right?

Anyhow, Zilven Sparkle's whipped up a gravity-based pony minigame to keep you occupied. Help Twilight master gravity spells, and try to avoid falling to your doom for as long as possible. The game appears to use the same animation as the upcoming Super Smash Ponies, and looks great in practice. If you've got .exe download problems, the HTML5 version can be found here, although lag and graphical issues are to be expected.

Cadance Toss

This has been on the posting roster for a few days, but our tactical posting bot dropped the ball. For those unaware, the notorious futzi01 has created the first game to feature the much-lauded sport of wife tossing! Hurl Cadance as far as possible, collecting crystal hearts to stay airborne. Go! For the Crystal Empire!

Super Smash Ponies Update #3

Zilven Sparkle and the team behind Super Smash Ponies have decided to scrap their current work and start from scratch - so that they can make the game bigger and better than ever! Looks like Fighting is Magic may have some competition to look out for. Screenshots of the new look after the break!

Pinkie Pie Population Perforation Project

How do you guys feel about episode-themed minigames? Really, that amazing? Well, if you insist. Apparently, Sparklepeep over on DeviantArt has a whole series planned.

Nothing too fancy here - blast the Pinkie clones with Twilight lasers while avoiding the original. Have at it!

MLP: RPG Part 1

Good afternoon/evening/morning, fillies and gentlecolts! If you've already recovered from your Pinkie-induced highs, then listen up. For the last several months, the DarkkyShadow team has been hard at work upon the bluntly named MLP: RPG, an open world ponies-on-earth role-playing game. More about the project after the break!

Ponyplace Updates

While most of us are out celebrating the return of pony and weathering the storm of Gak, I was checking out a few updates to the multiplayer chat room Ponyplace. Since I last visited, the interface is brighter and cleaner, and overall the site looks like it's been given a graphical facelift. It's also started to take on a few more game-like characteristics - characters are bought with bits, and you can save your account in between visits. Can we overload the server again? That remains to be seen.

My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic (Gameloft Game) Released!

Gameloft's anticipated take on MLP:FiM has been released! Unfortunately, it's only available in Australia and New Zealand at time of writing, but its download page (the iTunes NZ site is linked above) has plenty for you to slobber over even if you can't yet get it working on your iPhone or iPad. More after the break!

Update: The app is now available in the US. Find it here!
Update #2: The android version can be found here.
Update #3: Looking for a boatload of friends? Check out EQD's official name share post.

Pinkie Pie's Big Adventure

When I woke up this morning, I certainly wasn't expecting to be wowed by a Pinkie Pie platformer. Especially not one with a name as generic as Pinkie Pie's Big Adventure. However, it just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover! With stunning visuals, musical score, and several hours of playtime (I'm not even close to done,) this is exactly what fans of the pink pony have been waiting for. Happy gaming!

MLP Online: First Contact Impressions and Screenshots

I wanted to call this post "First Contact First Impressions," but it came off sounding strange. As I'm sure most of you know, the first episode of My Little Pony Online (a little misleading, given that it's currently a single-player download) was released just yesterday. I've played through a part of the game, and found a few amusing glitches along the way. Check out the rundown after the break!

Lyra's List #7

It's time for Lyra's List - the November edition! If you've never heard of Lyra's List, it's a way for people with awesome game ideas to get help making them, and for people with game-making talents of any kind to find a project. Find out more here. The deadline for submission to Lyra's List #8 is November 30, 2012. But for now, I'll cut the chit-chat and get right to it. You can find the submissions after the break...

MLP: Offline Episode 1 Launches

Download it Here!
That's right - the MLP Online devteam has released the first episode of five for their offline version of the game. The episode is entitled "First Contact" and is quite a while in the making. You can check out the post on their forums, and you can view the official press release after the break...

MLP: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions Demo

This morning, Dark Era studios released a demo version of their latest title, My Little Pony: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions! I've had a chance to play through the first few levels, and the polish at this early stage is frankly quite impressive. It's not a tiny demo, either - a significant portion of the full game is available to play.

Check out their trailer video here, and download the demo via the link above!

Game Maker Compilation Post #3

Guess what time it is! Filly Twilight knows... Anyhow, I'm not feeling particularly verbose today, so I'll get right down to it.

From projects bordering on professional to amateur fan games put together in basements late at night, the Game Maker comp has it all! Four today, hit 'em up after the break!

Review: Doomsday Ascending Part 1

Doomsday Ascending Part 1
Doomsday Ascending Part 1 (NSFW!)
Warning: the game contains Rule 34 imagery, although viewing them is optional.

Videogame adaptions of fan fiction is quite rare, and for a good reason. As can be discovered by simply picking up a story at random from FIMFiction the vast majority of them are quite lousy, and Doomsday Ascending was no exception. It has no redeeming qualities, and unfortunately falls more on the mediocre side of the scale which means that it isn't quite as amusing to read as, say Winnie the Pooh Assimilated by the Borg. The author, Jerry "Bhaalspawn" Peet, was apparently so full of himself that he decided to create an RPG based off of his cliche storm of a fanfic, and claimed that it used a "heavily modified" version of the RPG Maker VX Ace engine.

If you have been paying attention you've probably realized by now that this game is going to suck, but just how bad is Doomsday Ascending? The only way to find out other then playing it is to read our review, and you can do so by continuing on after the break.

Gameloft's Welcome to Ponyville Gameplay Footage

Update: the title for the game has been revealed: Welcome to Ponyville. I get the impression that Filly Gamez won't be too happy about this...

Apparently Gameloft has been developing an official My Little Pony mobile game for a while now, and yesterday one of the developers released a video preview that showcased the game. I must admit that overall it does look rather pretty, but it seems that this game is yet another example of how ponies really don't look that great in 3D (PonyKart managed to get around this with some fancy shading, but it would probably drain cellphone batteries to have that). This game should make an interesting review to say the least, although that reviewer won't be me since I do not currently own any working mobile devices.

What do you think of this preview, eh?

My Little Game Dev + Creepypasta Contest!

My Little Game DevRoom

Sometimes I have found myself wishing that there was a forum for My Little Pony fangame developers, but a couple days ago some folks from My Little Game Jam started discussing this idea amongst themselves. Usually this kind of talk doesn't get anywhere, but a bloke going by the username Wishdream took it upon himself to create the My Little Game Dev forums: a place where developers could come together, share their knowledge and just hang out. Sounds fun? Then join via this link.

In other news the site's founder has set up a creepypasta contest for the users to participate in, and there's a little over 2 days left. The prizes? Free art from Wishdream and exKira, along with a position on the devteam of a super secret fangame. It's not much, but at least it's a good excuse for some more creepypasta, eh?

MLP: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions Demo Trailer

MLP: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions

The team behind My Little Pony: Magic Shards, Darkera Studios, is well into the development of their next project - and frankly, it looks pretty cool. My Little Pony: Rise of the Clockwork Stallions is slated to feature more than 30 playable characters, 8 locations, 16 bosses, and a whopping 48 levels. Check out the trailer, and visit the project's development website via the link above!

Rainbow Dash Pony Disaster Playground Demo

Rainbow Dash Pony Disaster

The wonderful folks that brought you Waiting is Magic and TWALAGHT SPARKUHLZ REVEHNGSHE are currently working on a game titled Rainbow Dash Pony Disaster, and after surprisingly little ado decided to release a tech demo for their project. I'm quite impressed with the game so far, although the combat needs quite a bit of work and adding a little shading to the vectors would work wonders for the overall look. We'll be sure to review this for you when it comes out, but in the meantime why don't you give it a try, eh?

On a somewhat related note apparently our author Enigma is providing vectors for Penta Studios and is listed as a team member on their website. This isn't the first time he's worked on a fangame (his only released one being Click the Twilight Sparkle so far), but it's nice to see that he's contributing to the project.

Colors Of Time

Hang on, Discord's stopped time. That's rarely, if ever, a good thing. Right now, JCity's Colors of Time is a fairly short, basic platformer - however, its mechanics are nicely polished and the art very pretty for a 48-hour game jam. He's hinted that he may continue the project in the future - I, for one, would love to see it blossom into something unique. Link to the MLGJ page above!
- Arctic Lux

You guys never cease to amaze me. Complete with custom animation, creepy musical styling, and some slightly mind-bending visuals, The Oddwarg's Corruption is certainly one of the most colorful games to come out of My Little Game Jam. It's a little shorter than what I'd normally review, and borders on creepypasta, so I held off from grading it. Find the rundown after the break!

Sunset Defender

Man, four whole days without a post? This needs to be remedied, stat! Fortunately, Amethyst Air has just the thing. This little game was created for My Little Game Jam, but missed the deadline by a couple of hours. Help Cadence and Shining Armor defend Equestria from changeling missiles, chain reaction-style!

Letting a couple of locations be destroyed at the beginning proves to be the most effective strategy, as you can then focus your fire on the last remaining area. Waiting to click until the missiles are close to impact is a quick way to clear the board, but a little risky - if you miss, you're doomed. I couldn't get past level 13... if you beat me, feel free to disparage my skills in the comments!
- Arctic Lux

Next up from My Little Game Jam is...well, I'm not exactly sure how to describe Ponyvasion to be honest. According to the game's description the player is tasked to "Defend Unicorn-land against the invading pony's", and by that they mean "Kill Them All!". You are then given a variety of weapons that can be swapped with the keys 1-4 and thrown right into the thick of things. Shooting the multicoloured ponies increases your score, while hitting the fluffy white unicorns decreases it. In my opinino it is one of the worst fangames that we have ever come across, although as the case may be it might just be a trollgame. Either way you can give it a shot if you like, but don't expect to come back for more.
- Tuxxy

Is it a game? Well, you can move ponies around on the screen - good enough for me. PonyPlace is a simple yet elegant idea - a 2d pony chatroom with a wide variety of swappable avatars derived from the Desktop Ponies sprites. There were plenty of people online both times I logged on, although the project's still pretty basic - ideally, we'll see some more features in the future. Go check it out!

Update: Issue resolved, ponyplace is up and running again.

Review: Order of Twilight

Order of Twilight

Being a Mac/Linux user I often lament the lack of multiplatform My Little Pony fangames, and often I wondered why nopony was using the excellent LÖVE engine to do so. However during the last My Little Game Jam a certain game named Order of Twilight was submitted to the competition by a member of a certain Sound familiar? It should. was the team behind the famous indie game Mari0 (which was pretty much Mario with portals) and the fact that one of their members decided to contribute to My Little Game Jam is rather encouraging.

Just because Order of Twilight comes from a well-regarded source doesn't mean that it's automatically a perfect game. To read our short review of it continue on after the break.

Super Smash Ponies Update #2

You guys, this project is being developed so fast it's blowing my mind. The new update video features a booming announcer voice, a selection interface, and 3 playable stages with 7 characters. Zilven's also started a development Tumblr, which you can access via the link above, and he's looking for feedback on the game. You can expect an open beta soon!

Screenshot of an Official MLP Flash Game

Apparently this is a screenshot of an official My Little Pony flash game from their Facebook page. A year ago I would have been squeeing over this like my sisters over an autograph One Direction, but to be honest I must say that it looks kind of...dull. Sure it's always nice to have official games, but we already have an overload of cloud dodgers and the lack of a unified art style disturbs me. Of course I'll save most of my criticism and praise (hopefully) for the final product, but I do hope that this will be as good as Adventure Ponies, don't you? Speaking of which it would be interesting if we were able to put Adventure Ponies on the Arcade, although I kind of doubt that Hasbro would approve...

Questria Video Update

The Questria team has released a rather short video update for their game, showcasing the new weapons system and a player character mindlessly hacking away at a poor changeling. Having ponies carry weapons in their mouths looks...different from what most of us are used to, although hopefully unicorns will be able to wield them with their magic. The fact that it supports Mac OS X and possibly Linux will be a huge plus for many of our readers (myself included), and if the team decides to invest in the pro version of Unity3D they could utilize some rather interesting postprocessing effects such as SSAO and depth of field effects for those with more powerful computers.

What do you think of Questria so far, eh? Let us know in the comments!

Sun and Moon (Strategy Game)

Sun and Moon
Now, this isn't a video game. It's a strategy board game for two players (like chess), created by Dave Bryant. You can find the game's rules, as well as printable game boards and pieces at the link above, so you too can engage in the epic struggle between celestial and lunar. It's simple to learn, but offers many strategic intricacies that could make matches of Sun and Moon true battles of wits. You can find a bit more info after the break...

My Little Game Jam Open For Voting

As you probably know, My Little Game Jam finished up last weekend - and they received a very impressive 37 successful submissions. You can expect a wrap-up post (or posts) featuring the fan favorites after the contest's end, but for now: Go! Play! Vote!

Project:Harmony Teaser

Alas, our wondrous fandom still lacketh a MOTHER-style RPG, but fear not! Project:Harmony is here, riding on its shining horse and repelling the forces of darkness with its stunning graphics, terrifying foes (just look at the size of that giganto robot!) and a cast of incredibly handsome Bronies who can love and tolerate the crap out of all haters, even not-so-invincible clumsy robots! For the first time ever I am going to rate a game based off of the trailer alone, and give it a ten out of-

Sorry, I can't keep this up. In case it somehow managed to escape you the above paragraph was a joke, and despite what you might expect Project:Harmony is an actual fangame. They're releasing an actual announcement and trailer for their game on November 21st (which also happens to be my birthday), but they made this silly teaser just for laughs and...I couldn't resist posting it. Sorry folks, but you'll have to wait a mite longer to find out what Project Harmony is actually about...

TEMNO Trailer

If you've been following our Twitter account you may have been aware of a Limbo-style platformer/puzzle game through various screenshots that we have retweeted and given feedback for multiple times. Many times I have wished to see some actual gameplay footage of TEMNO, and last Saturday Astonov granted that wish with the release of a video update. Apparently the game takes place within a depressed Pinkamena's mind in which she is trapped inside and Twilight has broken into in order to rescue Pinkie. In a game like this graphics are of the uttermost importance, and hopefully Astonov manages to pull off a look reminiscent of Limbo (although I don't expect it to be as good as Limbo, since it is a solo fangame project after all). The fact that he is designing the majority of the game's environments with his DS is impressive, although I suspect that without some of Limbo's subtle effects such as grass blowing in the wind the environments may end up feeling flat and dull. That doesn't mean that the game will suck though!

Also, one thing that I think Astonov appears to have forgotten is that Pinkamena is not only depressed, but batsh** insane. If he realizes this and makes TEMNO reflect this somewhat...we might just have a winner on our hands.

Lunar Defense Force

Man, what's up with you guys and best princess blasting aliens recently? It seems the Shroobs do have a use beyond comprising the low point in Nintendo's excellent series of Mario RPGs, anyway. FearlessPie over on DeviantArt's come out with another flash, this one dedicated to purging mycological aliens from the surface of Woona's moon. It's not very complex, but it has a nice degree of challenge, and it's a nice way to cap off a Saturday evening.

Speaking of Woona, I'm off to go mash f5 on the Moonstuck homepage - good night!

Game Maker Compilation Post #2

It's that time again! If you guys continue to appease me, I'll grant you more posts full of games.

For those unaware, the Game Maker Compilation Post shows off games created with the engine Game Maker. While the program has it's limits, and the free version makes it difficult to package and distribute games online, it's easier interface offers great opportunities to new game developers. This compilation is dedicated to showing off every game, without the harsh critiques we sometimes give in reviews - however, many of these games are impressive in their own right.

I've got three for you today - one older, and two new games currently being developed. Check them out after the break!

My Little Game Jam has begun!

Why are you reading this? You're already behind! Yes, the first round of My Little Game Jam started four hours ago! You've only got until this weekend ends (midnight Sunday to Monday UTC, or 4:00 PM Pacific Time on the 7th, for all my Seattle bronies) to complete your game. It's certainly not too late to start - but you must have your chaos-themed My Little Pony fangame completed and submitted by the deadline. Here are the rules, shamelessly copied from their front page:
  • All assets and game logic must be created during the weekend of competition.
  • The contest is individuals only. You have to work alone.
  • The game must follow the theme announced at the beginning of the competition (chaos).
  • Code and assets must be open-sourced and added to the submission.
Caught flat-footed? Never fear: you may miss the contest, but any 48 hours is a perfectly good time to make a pony fangame in my book. I'm thoroughly jazzed to see what you guys come up with, and I'm certainly looking forward to raving about the winners come next week!

Super Smash Ponies

Everyone loves Fighting Is Magic - however, not everyone was raised by the Street Fighter series. For some of us, our first and fondest memories of side-scrolling brawlers will always belong to Super Smash Bros. Fortunately, we at Equestria Gaming only feed our armada of caged game developers when they're hard at work. At their current rate, we're on track to ponify every major game release since Pong by 2018.

For his latest project, Fluttershy77 (Zilven Sparkle) is hard at work on a ponified, pixelated version of the classic. We're still waiting for a playable release, but he's recorded several more trailers on his channel. The project looks promising - so far, we've seen final smashes and some basic bot fighting - so go check it out!

Luna's Quest Help Needed!

Luna's Quest
Surprisingly enough adventure games are a rarity in this fandom, and until recently the only existing MLP adventure game was the stunning Cutie Mark Crusade: A Dash of Adventure (which has sadly been put on hold). Thankfully this one bloke and his sister decided to do something about it and created an adventure game titled Luna's Quest with the Adventure Game Studio engine. Together they managed to complete a decent portion of the game along with some rather impressive pixel art for the cutscenes, but it turns out that the workload is too great and apparently they could use a couple pixel artists to help with the level backgrounds and field sprites. Part of me wanted to include this in the last Lyra's List, but then I realized that it was far enough into development to warrant its own post. Have an outdated gameplay video after the break!

Lyra's List #6

Look at Lyra - she looks so happy, doesn't she? Why is she happy? Because it's the first of the month, and that means it's time for another Lyra's List! If you don't know what Lyra's List is, click the link in the previous sentence! Let's get right down to business. The deadline for Lyra's List #7 is October 31, 2012. Check out the GDDs after the break...

Legends of Equestria Stress Test Weekend Overview

Pictured: Partying at Sugarcube Corner on Chrysalis server

I've been playing this game for about an hour and a half (has it been that long?), and I figured I'd give you guys my first impressions before I dive back in. I think it's safe to say that even though the current version is in pre-alpha, it's one of the most impressive pony gaming projects I've seen to date.

Yes, you heard that right. More of me waffling, a couple of tips, and a bunch of screenshots after the break!

New Fighting is Magic Build at CG

Mane6, creators of Fighting is Magic, are doing quite a bit of stuff at Canterlot Gardens as many of you have probably heard. They have a panel, and will be livestreaming a new build of the game (with Rainbow Dash included) at the con. You can see the stream here, or on their website. Also, tomorrow they'll be hosting a massive Fighting is Magic tournament starting at 12pm, with prizes. The competition may get heated - too bad I'm not there, because I would definitely take first place (not really).

Legends of Equestria Stress Test

We figured that you would all like to know that during Canterlot Gardens, Legends of Equestria will be undergoing a little stress test. What does that mean for our readers? Well, it means that from September 28-30 LoE will be open to the general public! That's right, for a limited time only everypony will be able to give Legends of Equestria a spin (except for Linux/FreeBSD users, who will have to wait for the release of Unity 4), and we'll be able to see how far the dev team has come. Once my extremely slow 20-90Kbps internet connection finishes downloading the game I'll test it myself and give you my thoughts on the game so far, but don't worry! Since the developers openly admitted that it's still in Pre-Alpha and not a finalized product I won't be unfair and give the game a score, but only a "first impressions" post. That sound good to you?

Also, there's a torrent for the LoE pre-alpha over at, which we advise that you use if you can. Have fun!

My Little Pump It Up Project

As far as I know, My Little Pump it Up is the only fan-made project dedicated to ponifying StepMania 5 - which, to be honest, sounds pretty cool. Maybe this could be the next convention gaming staple.

The team is creating the interface more or less from scratch, but they need money to purchase a machine in order to show off the beta at BronyMexiCON. Head over to their site to check out the project or donate!

My Little Game Jam Date Announcement + Theme Voting!

Earlier this month we posted about about this upcoming event called My Little Game Jam, a 2 day game-creation competition. Back then we had no idea as to when this was taking place, but now with the release of the team's new, sexier website website we can now confirm that the event will be taking place on October 5th at 23:59 UTC. Theme voting is also up, so if you want to help decide what the games must be about then you can do so over at You can also suggest new themes if you'd like, but try and not go overboard like you guys did with that silly Dub the Dew contest. After all, who would want to play (or make!) a My Little Pony fangame about Fred Durst Society of the Humanities and Arts, eh?

And no, I am not wishing luck to the hopeful contestants, as I trust that they won't need luck. Our fandom has some very talented developers, you know!

Spike's Quest Graphical Showcase

Spike's Quest

It's been a long time since we've heard anything from the Spike's Quest developer, but yesterday he decided to release a graphical showcase of a particular ingame room. It's fairly obvious that he has put a lot of work into this project, but it almost feels as if it is missing something. Part of it probably has to do with the cluttered environment and overwhelming amounts of detail that take the focus away from the main character. At times Spike almost feels invisible with all pillars and grates standing in front of him, but thankfully good ol' MisterBull appears to be aware of the issue and will hopefully resolve the issue before the next playable release.

I am also of the opinion that adding a slight parallax scrolling effect to the pillars in the front and back would have a positive effect on the environment's three-dimensional feel, although again it's up for MisterBull to decide as to whether or not he will include that effect.

My Little Dashie Visual Novel Demo

Out of all the My Little Pony:Friendship is Magic fanfics out there My Little Dashie is probably the most beloved. The concept of a man finding a cardboard box and opening it to find his very own filly Rainbow Dash inside was rather cute, even if the story was a tad predictable and considered sappy by some (such as myself). It didn't really surprise me when the nice folks over at The Daily Oat decided to begin work on a visual novel adaption of the classic fanfic, and I must say that it seems to be turning out in a rather nicely. I'll let somepony else review this visual novel when it comes out, but in the meantime why don't you give the demo a spin, eh?

The demo seems to be only for the Windows/Mac platforms, even though the Ren'Py engine also supports Linux and Android. Hopefully they release a Linux binary for the final release, but in the meantime it looks like you'll have to use Wine for this baby. Sorry!

Super Derpy: Muffin Attack Preview

A cloud dodger... with flash animation? And it just updated? I love you guys sometimes. Somepony's caused chaos near Discord's statue, giving him just enough power to turn muffins into muffin-zombies. He's trapped the Elements of Harmony in their homes, planning to bide his time until chaos reigns and he can rule Equestria  once more. Fortunately, he hasn't accounted for Ponyville's resident muffin expert! More after the break.
