Review - The Travel by Deth-Horses

Travelling back to 2012 once again for another Flash game which has surprisingly never been featured before. This game features an unique gameplay style where you control two characters at once through in an sort of endless runner (though it feels more like an endless walker), multitasking to keep both characters from eating too many tree branches, along with Rainbow Dash herself having to keep FlutterShy from falling behind.
Surrounding this main gameplay loop is an admittedly awesome boss fight which reminded me of the awesome sprite animations of that same era, only unfortunately lacking any music to match the awesomeness of the boss fight and, most importantly, the shockingly brutal difficulty of this game.
I for one found Airman Ga Taosenai thematically perfectly fits this boss fight.

Spike's Revenge & Lyra's Rampage by RoTexun - More Pony DOOM-likes

For some reason, we just can't get a break from pony games with guns, particularly DOOM-likes. We have here two very short but sweet games about a dragon going on a slaughter for his waifu and a schizo going on a slaughter for her husbando, respectively.
The former game features our favorite purple reptilian going on a vengeful genocide — no, we're not talking about Barney — against the diamond dogs and a mysterious other antagonist group to rescue his kidnapped waifu, Rarity. The story is basically non-existent, besides the beginning cutscene displaying Spike's grief, which in combination with the extremely muscular depiction of him on the title screen, leads me to the conclude that he binge-ate gems all day to become like that.
The latter is the real highlight, telling Lyra's heart-wrenching "rescue" mission of the newly-discovered human in Equestria. Bon Bon kindly gives her the location to the S.M.I.L.E. headquarters, to which Lyra gratefully responds by stealing and crashing her car on the way to the destination.
Lyra's Rampage is an incredible adventure, with masterfully rendered and voice-acted cutscenes, spanning several unexpected encounters with foes and allies alike, and journeys through worlds which will challenge your capability to withstand the vast absurdity of the game more than your gaming skills.
You can also watch them on our YouTube channel, though they are so short there's little reason not to play them yourself.

Fallout Equestria Remains - Steam Release

Several years after the official release of this game, people still can't get enough of it. Fans of this fangame of this fanfiction (insane chain of fandom going on here) have put this incredible game on Steam, including multiple mods adding new content altogether, fixing notorious crash issues, and many much-needed balance patches — though I won't forgive the mod creators for nerfing my favorite spell to oblivion.
Not much to say overall. The game is worth a play whether you have or haven't played it before. If you haven't played it before, go on ahead and enjoy one of the best original pony games ever made. If you have played it before, you can get a breath of fresh air from the modded alternative. Simply start the game from Steam and you will be prompted to run the original game or the modded version.

Magic Project Friendship Final Version - Arena Mode

Magic Project Friendship — that one with the ponies and the guns, if you forgot — has received an update with the new Arena mode, taking place 2 years before the main story line and putting you in the metaphorical shoes of Bon Bon as she trains to become the leader of the new S.M.I.L.E. under Twilight's rule with her direct supervision.
Please stop looking at me like that. It gives me the feeling that you are really into this.
The story follows Bon Bon working her way up from the bottom to regain her skills as the rightful S.M.I.L.E. leader after losing them during her retirement. The gameplay consists of fighting off waves of enemies in Twilight's Combat Training Program which she stole from Morpheus from the Matrix, a pocket dimension where all enemies and fights and deaths are purely simulations. During these waves your combat skills are tested against increasingly more stacked enemies, and some familiar faces too. Inbetween waves you will go to the armoury to spend your skill points, buy new weapons and recruit ponies into your own squad.
Also the ponies have big funny hats now.

Friendship Melody - Rhythm game with pony songs + associated MLP Forums event

Friendship Melody is a cross-platform, guitar-hero-like browser-based rhythm game with mobile and controller support. It's available exclusively on the MLP Forums, featuring 5 classic pony songs listed below:
Yes, those are my scores on all the tracks. I really don't like rhythm games and my performance reflects that
The game has returned for 3 weeks, lasting until the 11th of June (I sure hope that does not mean it will be gone forever after that). Alongside it is its corresponding event on the MLP Forums, which awards you an exclusive badge for completing the two new levels, those being "The Magic of Friendship Grows" and "Rules of Rarity," provided you have an account (as the game has the MLP Forums account system integrated into it) and submit your score in the comments of the event's thread.
Now, unless you're an active user of the site—meaning you probably already knew about the game—the badge is of lesser importance. But who knows? Maybe you’ll like it on the MLP Forums. An admin replied to me and had a casual chat with me via private messages immediately after I created my account. That’s some exceptional treatment for random users!

Spike's Mundane Adventures Trilogy by horror_and_oates

Spike's Mundane Adventures is a trilogy of fetch quest adventure games created by horror_and_oates — also known as sonicboy112 — presenting the rare moments when the bravest, most glorious dragon... gets a day off from Twilight.
The series consists of three games:
  1. Spike's Day Off
  2. Spike's Day Out
  3. Spike's Time Off
During these rare breaks from helping Twilight, we see the mundane adventures Spike embarks upon during his free time, such as:
  • Getting a hot dog for a friend
  • Getting a gift for Twilight
  • Saving Trixie from homelessness and starvation and securing her a roof under her head
  • Going on a quest of discovering his place in the world and where he belongs
  • Wait wha—WIND THAT BACK—
Just an average weekend, really.
The series follows Spike during his days off from helping Twilight and displays his inability to get any real time off as he constantly takes it upon himself to solve the problems of pony kind on his own (you see, he is not solving Twilight's problems, so it's totally different). These tasks seem simple initially but end up taking Spike on increasingly wackier adventures from a cast of familiar ponies who resemble Looney Tunes characters more and more as the story develops.
It is amidst this that the foundation for some remarkably touchy moments is laid upon, with each installment building up to strikingly touching moments like the bonding between Spike and Trixie over the efforts of making ends meet and Spike's journey to discover his place amongst pony kind or dragon kind.
The series is relatively linear with very light puzzles, which makes for a relaxing experience combined with the serene soundtrack plus the lovely chibi and chubby artstyle.
If you wanna take a look at the games without playing, we also have full playthroughs on our youtube channel for each of them.

Magic Project Friendship - Trixie Kills Twilight Sparkle

Magic Project Friendship is a new mod of Madness Project Nexus. The mod released... today! This is an Equestria Gaming original!
Don't know what Madness Combat is? That maybe is for the better considering the theme of this site. Basically it's like little gray flour sack-looking ""people"" murdering eachother gruesomely... but now it is ponies.
Anyways.

The plot of the game follows Starlight Glimmer breaking Trixie out of jail after being imprisoned by Twilight for the Alicorn Amulet incident—as all good friends would do, obviously. We follow the two quirky mares safely outside Twilight's chambers where they encounter... changelings? The Mane 6 take note of this and split off to investigate, revealing that numerous of their least favorite villains are back again—despite having been reformed like 12 times before or something—and want REVENGE, WOW THAT IS SO SCARY shivers. They have learned from their previous encounters that the Elements of Harmony aren't very good at shutting up villains, so now guns will do the talking.
It is amidst this chaos that the princess herself, in-between the slaughter, feels inclined to lore-dump—EXPLAIN to us about her new project to make ponies more friendly to eachother, the titular "Magic Project Friendship", a spell which she plans to cast on every creature in and outside Equestria. Surely this won't be a major plot element which we will learn the unpleasant details of later, right. Totally and absolutely, but unfortuntaly Trixie disagrees, as she goes on to investigate on her lonesome the intricacies of this Project, because she just cares oh-oh so much about Equestria (she just wants revenge on Twilight Sparkle).
You can watch our playthrough to get an idea of the game on the channel:

The ORIGINAL Scoot Hard by Waffle Iron Studios

Yeah, so, funny story: while replaying Scoot Hard DX, I randomly stumbled upon the ORIGINAL Wolfenstein mod, Scoot Hard. I myself thought it was lost to time, but it's here, rough edges and all.
There is very little information about the game out there, without even a trailer to speak off. The only real source for this game is a short (and innacurate) page on the Wolfenstein Fandom Wiki about it, which is how I stumbled onto it.
Originally released in 2012 as a beta. (hoo boy!) It received a handful of revisions until late 2017, accumulating to a 3 episode experience which is even more brutal than its successor. (Do NOT play this game on the hardest difficulty. It is NOT fun.)
Wolfenstein enjoyers will surely get a knack out of it, but casual players who have little to no experience with the classic Wolfenstein games should:
  1. Move their ego aside and play on one of the easier difficulties.
  2. Watch a playthrough of it
  3. or...
  4. Just play the successor...
The game is a product of its time, and while a lot of the charm is still there — high-resolution cartoony graphics, silly enemy one-liners and high quality music and sound design — the game is limited by being a Wolfenstein mod, requiring you to learn keyboard-only controls for a first-person shooter, which will throw you off for a good bit. For historical reasons it should be known and documented, because the pristine gem that is Scoot Hard DX might not have been born without it, but if you want to experience the definite interactive story of Scootaloo running and gunning her way through the Rainbow Factory, just play Scoot Hard DX.

RariDoom by Bahatumay – Doom With Changeling Genocide To Rescue Your Friends and Little Sister!

Raridoom, also known as Rarity vs. The Changelings, is a DOOM mod by bahatumay about Rarity rescuing her friends and her little sister from the changelings. The game originally began development back in... shuffles imaginary papers... 2012!.
Blud is COOKED 💀
Queen Chrysalis may have had evil plans in the past and gotten away with them, but none of those compared to kidnapping Rarity's friends and her little sister, Sweetie Belle! Slaughter the hive with an unexpectedly wide range of unique unicorn spells and...

Remember when this scepter was a meme? This game didn't forget!

...other interesting weapons.
Don't be fooled by the age and obscurity. The game's slow and steady development cycle may have caused it to go under the radar, but the quality and quantity of content it boasts speaks for itself! The game boasts 36 levels (including secret levels)! For reference, that is over twice as many as Scoot Hard DX, an equally awesome DOOM mod which we've featured before.
For technical reasons, we recommend playing Raridoom Custom Edition — yes, a mod of a mod — by Niko the Grunt. The mod (of the mod) adds more sound effects, fancier visual effects, and makes the game compatible with the newer DOOM engine. If you have no experience with DOOM mods and just want to just download and play, we packaged up the whole game for you here. Extract the archive, run gzdoom.exe, hit Play and get blasting! If the game does not boot, change the Options to use OpenGL.

All Pony Platforming Project Games Now (Actually) Functional + Last Demo of Minty Fresh Adventure 2 "Always the Bridesmaid"

A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNGGGGGGGGGGG time ago in a distant version of the My Little Pony fandom, there was a series of pony flash platformers known as the Pony Platforming Project. They have been broken on the arcade for... as far as I know... but thanks to a new Ruffle update, it is now trivially simple to host the games correctly without hacking them to Tartarus and back! Some have additionally received some extra content in the form of codes for custom levels for the level editor, or mentions of secrets most of you have likely never seen!
Additionally, we have added the last game of the series on the arcade, or at least the last working demo of it. Beware that despite this being a "new" game, it was released in... 2013! This game was intended to be the sequel to Minty Fresh Adventure as the title implied, with the addition of 2 other playable characters all with improved movesets and RPG elements. Alas, though that has not come to fruition, as the creator has long moved on to greener pastures, the series is now complete and fully playable on the arcade!

PixelShy: Orchestra, Shake Your Tail, Vertigo Maze, Pegasus Express

The third and final batch of PixelShy games by DracoBlair are now on the arcade! The new games are:
  • Orchestra - Repeat the song after Fluttershy... Yea, I honestly can't make this game seem more interesting than it is.
  • Shake Your Tail - A rhythm game featuring classic brony music!
  • Vertigo Maze - Lead Fluttershy through crazy spinning mazes! (preferably without getting motion sick in the process)
  • Pegasus Express - Endless Runner with Fluttershy!

Battle Gem Ponies Released! ...No, Seriously, for Realz!

It's finally out, guys. You can download the long awaited Battle Gem Ponies on Windows, iOS, Android, Mac, Linux, and even Amazon Tablets! (His words, not mine)
You can check out the Launch Trailer on YouTube (which premiered during the 2024 Monster Taming Direct this morning) if you wanna hype yourself up even more!

PixelShy: Fours, Matrix Arcana (v2.0), Memory Tiles, Grooming

The second batch of PixelShy games by DracoBlair are now on the arcade! The new games are:
  • Fours - Play Connect Four against Fluttershy (Warning: She is merciless!)
  • Matrix Arcana V2.0 - A complex variation of the classic lights out puzzle where you need to clear the board while Twilight Sparkle compliments your (very clever) moves.
  • Memory Tiles - Simple memory matching puzzle game with pony icons.
  • Grooming - Fluttershy has been hurt! Clean her up of the scratches, dirt and twigs without causing hurting her in the process!

PixelShy: Orchard Defender, Fashionista, Pop Quiz and Balloon Catcher out on the arcade!

The first batch of PixelShy games by DracoBlair are now on the arcade! The new games are:
  • Balloon Catcher - Control Fluttershy's little wings and catch as many balloons before the time runs out!
  • Fashionista - Perfectly fill the given patterns with the pieces given to you!
  • Pop Quiz - Test your knowledge of facts and MLP trivia with Cheerilee!
  • Orchard Defender - Prevent the birds from eating all your fruit by shooting them down with seeds!

Unicorn Training Returns for Its 10th Anniversary!

Always nice to see an older pony game get a little love after all of this time! Unicorn Training is back on the scene, freed from Digital Purgatory after having been removed from the app store a few years back. There's been plenty of little tweaks and quality of life improvements made for this re-release, which you can read more about in the press release below the break!

Scoot Hard DX: Daytime Drama Zero by Waffle Iron Studios. DOOM with Scootaloo in the Rainbow Factory!

Download on the official site!
Waffle Iron Studios have nuked Scoot Hard DX and stuff for various reasons. No matter, check the bottom of the article for downloads!
Yippie-ka-yay MotherB**cker

-Chicken, aka Scootaloo.

Scoot Hard DX: Daytime Drama Zero is a WIGZDOOM mod which released 3 years ago and which I am simply flabbergasted to see has not received any attention at all from any part of the fandom.

Loosely based on Rainbow Factory by AuroraDawn, you play as Scootaloo, who must escape the Cloudsdale Weather Corporation and get her friends back – by kicking flank! With tons of humor, an array of equine enemies, huge levels, powerful weapons, a look and feel like something off mid-2000s Newgrounds, and full voice acting.

This game is simply chock-full of love and passion. The game knows what it is and doesn't take itself too seriously. The voice acting complements it perfectly, being as cheesy as possible and reminding you that, yes, you are indeed playing a silly (but absolutely AWESOME) pony game.

The next part of the article will be me showing some of the awesome easter eggs and details I have found in the game. I highly recommend you check it yourself, as to not ruin the surprise. Mild spoilers ahead!

Battle Gem Ponies Alpha Demo for Backers and Future Development Plans!

We got an update on Yotes games' Monster Tamer game with ponies: Battle Gem Ponies! They have an alpha out for all of their backers and more information out for the future development of the game!
Your BGP Adventure kicks off with meeting the young Professor Bucky of Equestrian Labs. Which then leads into a hunt for the 6 Alpha Ponies roaming the regional outpost. Find them all, and trigger a showdown against the villainous Paragon Cartel who are out on a hunt of their own...
If you can't sit down on your seat and wanna support some epic pony projects and get to play them early, you can support the game's development on their patreon. If you're unsure about the game, you can always check the demo on their itch.io page to see if you like it!

Non-Arcade Spotlight: Hoofball by Donitz

This week's spotlight is focused on a game that isn't currently playable on the arcade due to emulator limitations. The best way to play these kinds of games is to download Flashpoint Infinity, where you can find almost all the games on the arcade and more!
Hoofball is a game made by the legendary Donitz, who has brought us classic titles like Derp till Dawn, Story of the Blanks, and Twilight vs. Walking. Hoofball is a demonstration of Donitz's engine designed to emulate the restrictions of the original SNES, a successor in many ways to Story of the Blanks (minus the horror), which emulated those of the NES.
The main content of this demonstration is the titular fictional game, Hoofball! A clone of football played in two dimensions where each team is only composed of a striker and goalkeeper. Start off facing off against Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo, and after defeating them you're on your own to see what other Surprises the game has to throw at you.
After getting your flank handed to you, be sure to right-click the game window to access the level editor to get an idea of the level of effort this engine had put into it!

Ergosphere

Ergosphere, developed by SingularMJ, is an neat 3D third-person hack n' slash/platformer, in which you are following the unicorn Horizon, a self-proclaimed researcher as she explores the ruins of an ancient civilization in search of powerful ancient artifacts.

Or at least that's what she planned to do. As she moves deeper into the ruins, she meets her eventual companion Ashes, a phoenix who serves as something of a guardian of the place. Ashes explains the history of her society -- including the existence of Trials, important events meant to test the mettle of any who rose to the challenge, and what led their civilization to ruin... having fallen at the hooves of the Trial's most celebrated and capable champion.
Tempted by greed and the promise of power by a force referred to as the Shadows, under the champion's rule the land, and most of those in it, were overrun by the evil creatures created by this force. Ashes manages to seal herself, the most powerful of the artefacts, and the spreading corruption away... until the seal unexpectedly breaks just in time for Horizon to come along. As a new Trial begins, Horizon will have to hack, slash, explore and dash her way through the ruins, collect the artifacts and (hopefully once she's done getting a good look at them!) stop the spread of the corruption once and for all.

One of the more interesting aspects of this game, next to the magically-infused combo-heavy combat system, is that large parts of the ruins are procedurally generated! A good example of it in action is actually right at the beginning of the game, which has a somewhat long platforming sequence that is completely different every time. Certainly keeps things interesting after losing all your lives!

If this sounds like it'd be up your alley, check out the game's itch.io page linked above!
