Magic Project Friendship Final Version - Arena Mode

Magic Project Friendship — that one with the ponies and the guns, if you forgot — has received an update with the new Arena mode, taking place 2 years before the main story line and putting you in the metaphorical shoes of Bon Bon as she trains to become the leader of the new S.M.I.L.E. under Twilight's rule with her direct supervision.
Please stop looking at me like that. It gives me the feeling that you are really into this.
The story follows Bon Bon working her way up from the bottom to regain her skills as the rightful S.M.I.L.E. leader after losing them during her retirement. The gameplay consists of fighting off waves of enemies in Twilight's Combat Training Program which she stole from Morpheus from the Matrix, a pocket dimension where all enemies and fights and deaths are purely simulations. During these waves your combat skills are tested against increasingly more stacked enemies, and some familiar faces too. Inbetween waves you will go to the armoury to spend your skill points, buy new weapons and recruit ponies into your own squad.
Also the ponies have big funny hats now.

Magic Project Friendship - Trixie Kills Twilight Sparkle

Magic Project Friendship is a new mod of Madness Project Nexus. The mod released... today! This is an Equestria Gaming original!
Don't know what Madness Combat is? That maybe is for the better considering the theme of this site. Basically it's like little gray flour sack-looking ""people"" murdering eachother gruesomely... but now it is ponies.
Anyways.

The plot of the game follows Starlight Glimmer breaking Trixie out of jail after being imprisoned by Twilight for the Alicorn Amulet incident—as all good friends would do, obviously. We follow the two quirky mares safely outside Twilight's chambers where they encounter... changelings? The Mane 6 take note of this and split off to investigate, revealing that numerous of their least favorite villains are back again—despite having been reformed like 12 times before or something—and want REVENGE, WOW THAT IS SO SCARY shivers. They have learned from their previous encounters that the Elements of Harmony aren't very good at shutting up villains, so now guns will do the talking.
It is amidst this chaos that the princess herself, in-between the slaughter, feels inclined to lore-dump—EXPLAIN to us about her new project to make ponies more friendly to eachother, the titular "Magic Project Friendship", a spell which she plans to cast on every creature in and outside Equestria. Surely this won't be a major plot element which we will learn the unpleasant details of later, right. Totally and absolutely, but unfortuntaly Trixie disagrees, as she goes on to investigate on her lonesome the intricacies of this Project, because she just cares oh-oh so much about Equestria (she just wants revenge on Twilight Sparkle).

RariDoom by Bahatumay – Doom With Changeling Genocide To Rescue Your Friends and Little Sister!

Raridoom, also known as Rarity vs. The Changelings, is a DOOM mod by bahatumay about Rarity rescuing her friends and her little sister from the changelings. The game originally began development back in... shuffles imaginary papers... 2012!.
Blud is COOKED 💀
Queen Chrysalis may have had evil plans in the past and gotten away with them, but none of those compared to kidnapping Rarity's friends and her little sister, Sweetie Belle! Slaughter the hive with an unexpectedly wide range of unique unicorn spells and...

Remember when this scepter was a meme? This game didn't forget!

...other interesting weapons.
Don't be fooled by the age and obscurity. The game's slow and steady development cycle may have caused it to go under the radar, but the quality and quantity of content it boasts speaks for itself! The game boasts 36 levels (including secret levels)! For reference, that is over twice as many as Scoot Hard DX, an equally awesome DOOM mod which we've featured before.
For technical reasons, we recommend playing Raridoom Custom Edition — yes, a mod of a mod — by Niko the Grunt. The mod (of the mod) adds more sound effects, fancier visual effects, and makes the game compatible with the newer DOOM engine. If you have no experience with DOOM mods and just want to just download and play, we packaged up the whole game for you here. Extract the archive, run gzdoom.exe, hit Play and get blasting! If the game does not boot, change the Options to use OpenGL.

Pony-Escape by PonyDevs

Supreme horse-game mazing n' gaming! Finished in 9.02 seconds.
This is a very simple maze game made by the PonyDevs community featuring rarity trying to escape randomly generated mazes... which sometimes are invisible... or while being stalked by the Smooze... or both. Your goal is to guide rarity through the monochromatic labyrinth into the black void on the right. rarity is clapping her hooves because she is so happy to be engulfed by the dark, empty void!
That is pretty much it. Not much more to say. Though I always like myself a some mazes, so this is my best attempt so far at speed-mazing (I just made that term up right now!). Timing starts the frame the new maze loads in and ends on the frame the "You Escaped!" text appears. Try to beat my time!

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed - Game Complete!

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed is a highly enjoyable RPG that puts you in the horseshoes of Princess Luna, along with our other favorite colorful horse heroes, on a quest to rid Equestria of an ever-growing dark magic threat. It's a ton of fun, and there's a lot of content here, though it may be challenging at times (most likely because I'm bad at games!) I'm around three hours into the game right now, and there's still so much to do!
If this seems like something you'd be interested in, visit the MLP Forums thread for additional information about the game and upcoming updates. We won't be linking to a static build again like we did in our previous article (whoops!), just in case the game changes again.

Adventure Ponies Ported To Atari 8-Bit Computers!

Somehow, this seems to have slipped under pretty much everyone's collective radars and that honestly completely baffles me. We're absolutely fixing that right this instant, though.
To say this is a bit of a surprise is absolutely an understatement! We've got ourselves a genuine port of the official, old-timey Hubworld pony game Adventure Ponies to Atari 8-bit computer line coming to us courtesy of the developer Gibstov. It's super satisfying to see these 8-bit styled games actually working on the appropriate hardware!
All the relevant information, including screenshots and a video of the port in action, can be found at the game's thread at AtariAge. We've also provided these below the break as per usual if you're not interested in poking through the thread! You can also play both the original game and Adventure Ponies 2 on the arcade if you're looking to play the original games, just a heads up!

Pony Comic Generator

So here's a fun little something to break up this unfortunate little news drought we've got going on here! GingerFoxy brings us this wonderful random pony comic generator, inspired by the Cyanide and Happiness version, letting you create all sorts of fun, wacky scenarios mainly featuring Rarity and Pinkie Pie, but also a nice host of others! Do feel free to share what you manage to come up with in the comments, and be careful, this one's a little addictive, haha!

Gem Hunting #2: Malicious Mansions, Silly Scribbles and Pursuing Pastries

I could've provided some context here, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun, would it?
While we're admittedly a bit light on the news front so far these past few days, I think another small, conveniently-timed batch of previously overlooked horsegames could make up for it a little bit, don't you? This time around, we're guiding our favorite technicolor horses through some assorted shenanigans including malicious mansions, silly scribbles and the endless pursuit of pastries! Check 'em out below the break!
okay yeah i did in fact work the subtitle into the intro paragraph to pad it out. fight me about it in real life why don't you okay gosh.

Game: Cutie Mark Unmagic

Hot on the nonexistent trails of the lack of news about season 5 of that one horse show, futzi01 has another one of those Flash games he always makes. This time, the concept is six minigames centered around one-upping each member of the main cast at some part of their special talents, sending them face-first into crushing show spoilers and the endless wait for more drips of information. If all six of the minigames are beaten in one sitting, your reward is a screen ranting about the excessive commercialization of a show designed primarily to sell toys.

War of Harmony Platformer Beta

A mechanics experiment by the creator of the War of Harmony series, this game has no plot and is still a bit rough around the edges, but it's worth check out if only to give the creator some feedback. That being said, the creator is currently on hiatus. Either way, nothing to put after the break. Download's up above, creator's tumblr is here.

Also hey look I'm still alive. Hi everyone.

Review: War of Harmony IV

War of Harmony IV is an RPG created by Marshal Ruffy which has been under development for quite some time now. You may remember Tuxxy reviewing an earlier build of the game, so I'd like to begin by saying I will NOT take into account that review. I will be reviewing this as if it were an entirely new game. As always, check below the break for the review.

Ponyventure Demo

The Ponyventure title screen
Ponyventure

From what I've seen, this is a fairly generic pony platformer with multiple characters and, surprisingly enough, local multiplayer (although I haven't really gotten the chance to try it out yet, as usual). Dunno if this'll go anywhere or not, but Hopeabandoner's other main fangame project looks much more promising so I'll be posting about it next.

He also made this creepypasta named BENT.EXE, but I dunno if I'll ever get around to posting it.

Super Ethical Shipping Climax Demo

(Tumblr)

Billing itself as a SFW-ish parody of shipping-centric visual novels, the Super Ethical Shipping Climax demo is an awkward jumble of borrowed vectors, annoying placeholder music and plenty of fourth wall-breaking dialogue. This might sound bad, and from several perspectives it leaves a lot to be desired, but to be honest I rather enjoyed this weird little MLGD Marathon entry in spite of (or perhaps partially because of) its shortcomings. Perhaps that's what the developers intended in the first place?

Since this is only a demo there are several missing endings and whatnot, although I hope they leave in several of the blank scenes in which the narrator laments their lack of a visual artist.

Review: Super Lesbian Horse RPG

A gameplay screenshot of Super Lesbian Horse RPG
Super Lesbian Horse RPG

One day Bobby Schroeder decided that she liked shipping cartoon horses enough to warrant creating a silly game about it: Super Lesbian Horse RPG was the result of her labour. Overall awareness of the game spread quickly after its announcement by virtue of its somewhat odd title, along with a rather amusing /mlp/ thread which claimed SLHRPG was something else entirely, and now here we are with the somewhat final product (given that there will probably be several bugfix releases in the near future). Expectations for the project have been fairly high overall, but does it live up to them? For that, dear reader, you will have to read the rest of the review.

Horse Time below the break.

Review: War of Harmony IV

War of Harmony IV title screen.
(Download)
The game does contain some grimdark content, in case that bothers you.
On May 12th a demo for some RPG Maker game named War of Harmony IV was released, oddly enough without other WoH games I to III. Perhaps Marshall Ruffy thought the roman numeral 4 looked neat, and decided to quietly include it with the game in the hopes that nobody would ask about the missing first three instalments in the "series", or he could be planning on releasing the other entries later on and out of order (the latter of which seems the most likely, given some of his recent tweets). Either way, it's still kind of a weird decision in naming, one that the game itself will hopefully make up for.

As usual, you can find the rest of the review after the break.

Pony Amnesia Demo

A group picture of the game's main cast.
For various reasons I don't like posting the release announcement and review of a game right next to each other, and what do you know? Some developer usually happens to conveniently release a demo or something right in between posts, so our readers don't get two articles about the same game in a row. I'm not sure as to why this always happens, but here's a thank-you to Gentlecolt Collaborations for accidentally upholding this odd tradition and treating you all to a brand-new pony visual novel at the same time.

Since this is only a demo I'm not going to put a score on the project or anything, but I might as well put some feedback below the break. Fair enough?

Crazy Pony 1.2

A screenshot of a new Crazy Pony level starring Fluttershy
(Bitbucket repo)
Yesterday verycrazypony, macho-sadist extraordinaire, released a brand-new version of Crazy Pony with fancy new features like an online leaderboard and player avatars (which, sadly enough, don't seem to be working for me right now on Linux Mint), along with some some new levels in case you've beaten the original. Mac OS X support is also available for those willing to compile the game in Xcode, although I expect that verycrazypony will provide official OS X binaries fairly soon like he did with the previous releases.

Super Smash Ponies - Rarity

Looks like the Super Smash Ponies development team thought now would be a good time to release some footage of Rarity, and boy were they right. It looks incredible so far, and while I doubt it'll reach Fighting is Magic-levels of greatness it should still make for one great fighting game. Then again, they're two entirely different types of fighting game, so I really shouldn't compare the two projects to each other... Also, I kind of feel sorry for Applejack in this trailer. Why does everypony always seem to pick on the poor gal? It's not like she's done any harm to anypony, unless you count that "baked bads" incident.

Nightfall Beta

Nightfall

Over the past few months we've been posting videos of Nightfall, a sidescrolling platformer/tower defense/whatever game by Silly Mare Games. Development went along smoothly, and now they've already released a beta build of their game (which was quickly followed by another with various balance improvements). The demo even features several bosses: a rarity for a pony fangame, which almost guarantees an appearance by our favorite swiss cheese-legged queen. Still, I am curious to see what other bosses they have in store...

Given that the game is a beta and still in active development it's unfortunately more than a bit too early for us to review it, but you folks can still play it and perhaps give Silly Mare Games some feedback.

Review: A World You Should Not Know

A screenshot of A World You Should Not Know
A World You Should Not Know

A while back some guy over at the My Little Game Dev forums thought it would be funny to make an Equestria Girls game with dubstep, lousy textures, and annoying audio. The resulting project took a mere two days to make, and along the way somehow turned into A World You Should Not Know: a horror game starring Twilight Sparkle as she tries to retrieve the magical crown from...whatever. Sunset Shimmer isn't involved at all: the story is basically just an excuse for the game.

The review continues after the break, as usual.
