Magic Project Friendship Final Version - Arena Mode

Magic Project Friendship — that one with the ponies and the guns, if you forgot — has received an update with the new Arena mode, taking place 2 years before the main story line and putting you in the metaphorical shoes of Bon Bon as she trains to become the leader of the new S.M.I.L.E. under Twilight's rule with her direct supervision.
Please stop looking at me like that. It gives me the feeling that you are really into this.
The story follows Bon Bon working her way up from the bottom to regain her skills as the rightful S.M.I.L.E. leader after losing them during her retirement. The gameplay consists of fighting off waves of enemies in Twilight's Combat Training Program which she stole from Morpheus from the Matrix, a pocket dimension where all enemies and fights and deaths are purely simulations. During these waves your combat skills are tested against increasingly more stacked enemies, and some familiar faces too. Inbetween waves you will go to the armoury to spend your skill points, buy new weapons and recruit ponies into your own squad.
Also the ponies have big funny hats now.

Magic Project Friendship - Trixie Kills Twilight Sparkle

Magic Project Friendship is a new mod of Madness Project Nexus. The mod released... today! This is an Equestria Gaming original!
Don't know what Madness Combat is? That maybe is for the better considering the theme of this site. Basically it's like little gray flour sack-looking ""people"" murdering eachother gruesomely... but now it is ponies.
Anyways.

The plot of the game follows Starlight Glimmer breaking Trixie out of jail after being imprisoned by Twilight for the Alicorn Amulet incident—as all good friends would do, obviously. We follow the two quirky mares safely outside Twilight's chambers where they encounter... changelings? The Mane 6 take note of this and split off to investigate, revealing that numerous of their least favorite villains are back again—despite having been reformed like 12 times before or something—and want REVENGE, WOW THAT IS SO SCARY shivers. They have learned from their previous encounters that the Elements of Harmony aren't very good at shutting up villains, so now guns will do the talking.
It is amidst this chaos that the princess herself, in-between the slaughter, feels inclined to lore-dump—EXPLAIN to us about her new project to make ponies more friendly to eachother, the titular "Magic Project Friendship", a spell which she plans to cast on every creature in and outside Equestria. Surely this won't be a major plot element which we will learn the unpleasant details of later, right. Totally and absolutely, but unfortuntaly Trixie disagrees, as she goes on to investigate on her lonesome the intricacies of this Project, because she just cares oh-oh so much about Equestria (she just wants revenge on Twilight Sparkle).
You can watch our playthrough to get an idea of the game on the channel:

This is a wonderful gem of the past featuring 8 pony games and interactive experiences exuding raw 2012 energy. All of them are very short and sweet, but here is the rundown:

Arcade Spotlight: Pinkie Pie's Water Balloon Toss

This is a deceptively simple game. You play as Pinkie Pie and your goal is to get as many ponies wet as possible with a limited supply of water balloons in less than a minute, for some reason... (It's Pinkie Pie, okay?)
The further the ponies are, the faster they move and the more points they give. There is a perfect theoretical score of 40000, which can only be achieved by using up all of your water balloons on the pegasi at the very back without getting blocked by passer-by equines.
NOTE: Ruffle has a small issue with this game of only displaying "100 points" when you hit any of the ponies. This doesnt effect gameplay and is just a visual bug, as your score gets updated with the correct ammount in the end.
Knowing all that, my high score is...
Yeah.
I know I could decompile the game and cheat to get it and see what happens if you get it, but that's BORING. Take a shot at it! Can you get the perfect score?

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed - Game Complete!

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed is a highly enjoyable RPG that puts you in the horseshoes of Princess Luna, along with our other favorite colorful horse heroes, on a quest to rid Equestria of an ever-growing dark magic threat. It's a ton of fun, and there's a lot of content here, though it may be challenging at times (most likely because I'm bad at games!) I'm around three hours into the game right now, and there's still so much to do!
If this seems like something you'd be interested in, visit the MLP Forums thread for additional information about the game and upcoming updates. We won't be linking to a static build again like we did in our previous article (whoops!), just in case the game changes again.

Adventure Ponies Ported To Atari 8-Bit Computers!

Somehow, this seems to have slipped under pretty much everyone's collective radars and that honestly completely baffles me. We're absolutely fixing that right this instant, though.
To say this is a bit of a surprise is absolutely an understatement! We've got ourselves a genuine port of the official, old-timey Hubworld pony game Adventure Ponies to Atari 8-bit computer line coming to us courtesy of the developer Gibstov. It's super satisfying to see these 8-bit styled games actually working on the appropriate hardware!
All the relevant information, including screenshots and a video of the port in action, can be found at the game's thread at AtariAge. We've also provided these below the break as per usual if you're not interested in poking through the thread! You can also play both the original game and Adventure Ponies 2 on the arcade if you're looking to play the original games, just a heads up!

My Silent Ville

Whoa, someone actually finished a game based on Silent Ponyville! This is a short horror game and adaptation of SamRose's Silent Ponyville! The original link no longer exists, but you can still download the game here!

"Pinkie Pie has been plagued by ceaseless nightmares. Her friend Twilight has been doing her best to console her, but the horrific dreams persist. One night, Twilight claims she has found an answer to Pinkie’s problem; an old spell called the Mind Delve. Nobody knows the exact effects of the spell, but it has been proven to cure ponies of psychological trauma. Unable to bear living with the nightmares any longer, Pinkie consents to having the spell cast on her. With a flash of white, her surroundings vanish. When she comes to, she finds herself in a twisted version of her home filled with fog and monsters…"

Luna Game 3D

Luna Game 3D Title Screen
Following with our usual tradition, we're quite late in posting this, but boy is this a nostalgia bomb! For those unaware the Luna Game series were seemingly simple platformers at the start, but eventually would lock up, playing creepy music and displaying disturbing imagery. This game concept was then expanded upon in RPG Maker by Hedgehogself and the story was further developed as well.

Luna game 3D is a re-imagining of the series created in the GZDoom engine. In this game you'll meet various character and shall need to traverse through hostile environments where one wrong move could lead to your death.

"Are you skilled enough to survive in this hellish world? That's for you to find out."

Pony Comic Generator

So here's a fun little something to break up this unfortunate little news drought we've got going on here! GingerFoxy brings us this wonderful random pony comic generator, inspired by the Cyanide and Happiness version, letting you create all sorts of fun, wacky scenarios mainly featuring Rarity and Pinkie Pie, but also a nice host of others! Do feel free to share what you manage to come up with in the comments, and be careful, this one's a little addictive, haha!

The Difference Between Us - An Adorable Fluttershy x Pinkie Pie Visual Novel

Now there's something we just don't see very often around these parts! As the title implies (er, well, completely states), The Difference Between Us is a wonderful little Ren'Py-based visual novel from developer Robin Daydream covering the wonders and woes of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy's first date. While the concept is pretty simple, the developer's description promises and the game seems to deliver on (I only say seems as I've only had time to play through the game once thus far) there being plenty of variation; between the three possible routes through the date and three endings per possible route, there should be more than enough to keep you invested for at least a little while!
Admittedly, at least for me, jumping into a game that's all about shipping our favorite tiny, colorful horses can be just a tad bit uncomfortable on the surface, but once you're actually into the story (and experienced adorable overload!) it's definitely worth playing!

Game: Cutie Mark Unmagic

Hot on the nonexistent trails of the lack of news about season 5 of that one horse show, futzi01 has another one of those Flash games he always makes. This time, the concept is six minigames centered around one-upping each member of the main cast at some part of their special talents, sending them face-first into crushing show spoilers and the endless wait for more drips of information. If all six of the minigames are beaten in one sitting, your reward is a screen ranting about the excessive commercialization of a show designed primarily to sell toys.

Game: Patapony

Lead your very own Pinkie Pie army to victory!

Patapony is a rhythm-based game inspired by the game Patapon. Here you control an entire army of Pinkie Pies and lead them through a few different stages, using your drums to create three different combinations that tell the Pinkies what to do, namely March, Attack and Defend.

While there aren't many levels, they certainly were enough to game over me once or twice, and it's really fun to play. It starts off a little hard due to unfamiliarity, but once you get the hang of it everything goes a lot smoother.

Now, get out there and start drummin' so your Pinkies can follow.

Silent Ponyville: Echoed Sorrows is hiring

Silent Ponyville: Echoed Sorrows is a game where you dive into Pinkie's mind to uncover the cause of her constant nightmares. (Or something like that. There isn't much to go off of from their site.) The team behind the game is currently looking for a few extra hands to assist with development. Though there isn't much information about the project at the present time, they already have a trailer up, and  a GitHub repository of unfinished code is available on one of the developers' profile for curious eyes to look over.

More information, including how to contact the team, is available either on their site or copy-pasted below the break.

Review: War of Harmony IV

War of Harmony IV is an RPG created by Marshal Ruffy which has been under development for quite some time now. You may remember Tuxxy reviewing an earlier build of the game, so I'd like to begin by saying I will NOT take into account that review. I will be reviewing this as if it were an entirely new game. As always, check below the break for the review.

Pinkie's Balloon Trip

Considering what's plastered across her flanks, putting Pinkie Pie in a game about balloons seems like a no-brainer. This game from Brian Bullock (which is listed as a beta, despite feeling quite complete) is basically a clone of the NES's Balloon Trip, but with ponies and an online scoreboard. The latter does wonders for replayability of the game, even if the mechanics of lower scores on a name overriding older, higher scores is a bit irritating. Regardless, the game is well-built for a clone game, and like the original, is a fantastic way to spend a few moments if you don't mind dying a lot.

Ponyventure Demo

The Ponyventure title screen
Ponyventure

From what I've seen, this is a fairly generic pony platformer with multiple characters and, surprisingly enough, local multiplayer (although I haven't really gotten the chance to try it out yet, as usual). Dunno if this'll go anywhere or not, but Hopeabandoner's other main fangame project looks much more promising so I'll be posting about it next.

He also made this creepypasta named BENT.EXE, but I dunno if I'll ever get around to posting it.

Super Ethical Shipping Climax Demo

(Tumblr)

Billing itself as a SFW-ish parody of shipping-centric visual novels, the Super Ethical Shipping Climax demo is an awkward jumble of borrowed vectors, annoying placeholder music and plenty of fourth wall-breaking dialogue. This might sound bad, and from several perspectives it leaves a lot to be desired, but to be honest I rather enjoyed this weird little MLGD Marathon entry in spite of (or perhaps partially because of) its shortcomings. Perhaps that's what the developers intended in the first place?

Since this is only a demo there are several missing endings and whatnot, although I hope they leave in several of the blank scenes in which the narrator laments their lack of a visual artist.

Castle Pinkiestein

Castle Pinkiestein

If you've been following the Spike's Quest blog, you may have heard that its creator was alternating between working on it and a side-project titled Castle Pinkiestein, a first-person shooter/puzzle game starring Twilight Sparkle as the protagonist, trapped inside some sort of cruel nightmare in which she is forced to kill mutated Pinkie Pie clones. Aside from this there really isn't much else for info on the game (aside from what we've heard of it formerly being a minigame in Spike's Quest), so I guess we'll just have to wait for now and see how the project turns out.

My apologies for the overall lack of content lately as well, I'm just waiting for the My Little Game Dev Marathon to finish so I can post about the results (it officially ends at some point tomorrow, which will be followed by a one or two day delay until I get the go-ahead to write the compilation post).

PoniPoni Visual Novel Creator

A sample screenshot of PoniPoni
PoniPoni

In an attempt to encourage the creation of more pony visual novels, Taivastiuku decided to create a web-based tool for that purpose and called it PoniPoni. It's still in a fairly early state, mind you, and the average person probably won't give this more than a passing glance at the moment, but I get the impression that if this ever gets anywhere it could become a rather useful tool for folks wanting to whip together a quick VN. Perhaps more developers would be attracted to the project if the source code were to be released on GitHub or something, I dunno.
