Flash is Kill - What's Next?

Hello horse friends, today we have a long-overdue update on the state of affairs. Specifically, what we want to do for the arcade now that Flash is no longer supported. If you're curious about our plans, you can find out more after the break!

UPDATE
The arcade can now be sorted by "Ruffle Compatible," which displays all games that are functional with the emulator, each of which should play in your desktop browser without difficulty! We will  continue to update the section as devellopment furthers and compatibility improves.

Of course, HTML5-based games all run flawlessly, and there are developers who are converting their games to this format. We soon plan to include more of these and  futher expand the list of playable games!
We've looked at a variety of solutions to get things back up and running. We tried decompiling.swf files and upgrading them as html5, but the scripting language is very different, so all games would have to be recoded, which would be a long and potentially painful process, but it's not completely out of the question.

At the moment, the best solution is likely to play the games you want on BlueMaxima's Flashpoint, but several games are missing from the catalogue. The second most promising alternative is the ruffle emulator, which is currently implemented on the web (poorly, but it will be resolved soon), but it only partially supports ActionScript 1 and 2, with almost no support for ActionScript 3, which was released in 2006. Unfortunately, this means that only a few mlp games are currently functional with it, but progress is being made and I'm confident it'll only be a matter of time before it works as well.

With the exception of HTML5 games, which some developers are working hard to upgrade their games to, 27 of the flash games we've tested are entirely playable on the emulator. We plan to create a section in the arcade listing the currently available titles, as well as a separate section offering the ability to download a .sfw file for those who aren't currently working. All of this will be adjusted as new games become available.

On a side note, I apologise for the lack of updates on the site; we'll have another game catch-up post in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
