Review - Derpy’s Fun House

Cute little Point and Click derp-venture.
It sure has been a while since we last did a proper review, hasn’t it? And look what just struck our mailbox, and have been doing rounds around in the fandom. A cute looking adventure game with everypony’s favourite derped background pony. This ought to be a cozy little experience.
Derpy’s Fun House is the first endeavour by the Raztudio team, with the game available on Itch.io and somehow a release, albeit as a free download, on Steam somehow. I suppose, if you stay quiet enough, copyright isn’t a factor, even on the biggest game distribution platform.
First impressions are charming. Doesn’t look like a massive experience that is gonna devour hours, something like 20 minutes, but hey, looks can be deceiving. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30, it looks like a cute time regardless of the length, that would put a smile on most anyone who plays it. But enough hypothesizing about the game, from just screenshots and trailer footage, how about letting the game speak for itself.

Arcade Spotlight: Zap Apple Buckin' by zztfox

In the spotlight this week we've got Zap Apple Buckin', a cute and simple little point and click by the talented pony pixel artist zztfox! Tap (or click!) on all of the ripe Zap Apples before they disappear to help Applejack harvest them, making sure to take great care to avoid the unripe ones. Harvest as many of them as you can within the time limit in order to get a high score and increase your rank, which give you greater and greater score multipliers the higher up you get!
Just a quick note! When a round ends, the screen will fade to black, then the results screen fades in, and then you go back to the title screen. Around level 20 or so, there's a bug wherein the screen will fade to black like normal, but won't fade back in again. The game is still going when this happens! Your progress is saved between rounds, so just listen for the title screen sounds and then refresh the page to continue playing. Happy harvesting!

Introducing My Little Longplays!

Over the past 14 years, there's been a whole heck of a lot of pony games that have come and gone. While there are plenty we remember fondly, and some that are still going strong to this day, the vast majority have been forgotten. Flash and HTML5 games, being browser based, are easy enough to preserve and keep in the public eye... but what of the countless ancient PC pony games that have long since faded from memory?
Welcome to My Little Longplays, a new site feature dedicated to full playthroughs of all of the fantastic pony games that time forgot! To start things off, we're heading back to the magnificent, far-off year of 2013 and having an intense battle against Fluttershy for the title of "Shhh!" World Champion in this game developed by Vanni. Who will win? You'll just have to watch and find out!

Arcade Spotlight: Explore Ponyville by drud14

This week's Spotlight is coming to you live from scenic Ponyville, courtesy of drud14! Explore Ponyville is an adorable compilation of minigames and small scenes wherein the player hangs out all over town with the Mane Six. Released in the far-flung year of 2013, it comes surprisingly close at times to passing for an official game, though one or two parts have a some quirks to them that break that immersion! Sure, I could elaborate, but maybe you should just play it for yourself to find out what I mean!

Arcade Spotlight: Canterlot Defender by futzi01

This week, we're spotlighting Canterlot Defender by the insanely prolific futzi01! Perhaps not the most popular game of theirs with the word "Canterlot" in the title, but this is a fun little game nonetheless. Another title based on the events of A Canterlot Wedding, the player, as Twilight Sparkle, must try to survive as long as possible while defending Canterlot from an endless swarm of invading Changelings. It's about as simple as it sounds, really. Go give it a shot! get it?? because you're shooting down changelings?? anyone??? please laugh

Arcade Spotlight: Mine Escape by CertaintyPrinciple

Welcome to the very first Arcade Spotlight, a series of weekly posts dedicated to giving a random arcade game a little time in the sun! I've noticed over the years that, with the sheer amount of titles we have, there are more than a few with... less-than-stellar view counts. Let's see if we can't fix that!
Mine Escape, the penultimate pony project of developer CertaintyPrinciple, was originally posted to DeviantArt on July 5th, 2012, making its way to our arcade that same day. A point-and-click puzzle game based on the events of A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2, it features Twilight Sparkle solving a series of puzzles in order to free herself and the real Princess Cadance from the depths of the Canterlot gem mines so they can put a stop to the impending Changeling invasion.
This is quite possibly my favorite game out of all of the ones we have, so I'm super stoked that it came up first. Give it a go and let us know what your final time is! I remember it taking me a... uh, little while to get through, my first time. Won't be hard for y'all to do better than me! i'm dumb and bad at puzzles lmao

Slaughter Horse 2

Have you ever wanted to take on the role of a evil murderous horse? Then this is the game for you! Slaughter Horse 2 is a game of strategy, deception and skill in which your goal is to slaughter all the members of the Town Council before they have a chance to raise an alarm. You must use your wits and cunning to outsmart your opponents, while also keeping your sanity in check and acting as innocent as possible.
"Craft fiendish and irresistible cakes, drop in on the townsfolk and murder them, gaslight innocent ponies into doubting their own innocence, kidnap victims and lock them in your basement - they will probably try and barter for their lives with information. Hopeless, of course."
The game is a prequel to the grimdark mobile game "Slaughter Horse" and based on the classic Werewolf game, but with it's own unique twists! The game is shockingly complex, well polished and constantly updated. If you're interested, you can check it out here on Steam!

NIA: Path of Light Teaser Trailer Released

Despite some rather interesting developmental delays and other issues (not what you'd expect, to say the least) over the past few months, it appears that the team behind the 3D point-and-click adventure NIA: Path of Light has gotten things back on track! To that end, they've released this rather neat looking little teaser trailer for the game; while it doesn't actually show any gameplay, it's definitely interesting enough to watch and proves a nice sign of life from the project as a whole. Check it out above!

Octavia in the Underworld's Cello

The Underworld's Cello (fixed)

So I knew that I was going to be posting about at least one adventure game today, but to be quite honest with you I was rather surprised when I opened up my deviantART notifications and found a demo for a first-person point & click adventure game right before my eyes. It stars Octavia (duh) and Vinyl, as they venture into a dilapidated mansion after following some poorly-written directions to a Nightmare Night party, and yes, it does run splendidly in Wine once you install dsound. Thing is, it is quite a bit darker than your average pony adventure game, although the fact that it's being released so close to Halloween probably explains that.

Heh heh heh...

Where's Derpy? 2

In honor of Derpy Day, pepperpunk has released Where's Derpy 2, the sequel to the original point-and-click Derpy-finding adventure. The mechanics are almost exactly the same as the first time around - in each panel, find Derpy, 3 muffins, and Lyra (if she appears). However, there are a few more achievements this time around. Have at it!

Adventure In Ponyville 0.1

It's been a tumultuous week for the fandom, huh? Not to worry - I'm sure you guys can create games faster than Hasbro can type up C&D notices. Today, we've got an old-fashioned, point n' click exploration of Ponyville that has all the innocence of season 1.

Story-wise, Adventure in Ponyville seems to be pretty run of the mill. As a new arrival in town, you spend your time meeting ponies, playing minigames, and earning "friendship points." Hopefully, we'll see a plot in later installations.

Don't let the lack of story turn you off immediately, however. Adventure in Ponyville's graphics are close to show-accurate and entirely original: certainly a sight for sore eyes. In a couple of scenes (most noticeably Pinkie's minigame) they're not yet finished, but the majority of the game looks great.

Finally, don't forget to click around a bit - innocuous books, mushrooms, and flights of stairs yield themselves readily to your wit. Enjoy!

Please, Make Me SMILE!

Please, Make Me SMILE!

Sometimes there are games that are good, but since they have such terrible graphics people simply ignore them. Usually this is because most programmers are mathematically oriented and not artistically oriented, and is the reason why most game developers hire an artist to help them deliver as much polish as possible. Please, Make Me SMILE! is one such game. Made for a 24 hour game creation competition, PMMS is a point 'n click adventure game that seems to have had its sprites created in MS paint so the author could focus on somewhat more important things (programming), and while the game itself isn't half bad most people will probably ignore it due to the rather poor sprites.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure that the creator would appreciate it if you leave any feedback in the comments. Hopefully for his next project he'll be able to obtain somepony to help him with the in-game art and create an even better game for the masses. Cheerio!

Review: Canterlot Defender

Play it Here!
Or on the Equestria Gaming Arcade
After the Season 2 finale, it's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't dreamed of defending Canterlot against an incoming swarm of Changelings, preferably using this technique, pioneered by Twilight Sparkle. Well, thanks to Futzi01 on Deviantart, you can do just that. This point and click style game is already on the Equestria Gaming Arcade, but I felt it deserved a proper review. You can read it after the break...

Review: Click the Twilight Sparkle (April Fools)

At the game's beginning, the score is low. Fear not, little one, for with little effort will the score raise
Download it Here!
Please note that this article was an April Fools day joke and is not meant to be taken seriously.

Let me just start this review by saying that this game is quite possibly the best pony game we've seen to date. The concept is simple, yet elegant: you must click Twilight Sparkle, and as you do, you earn points. The author behind this game is anonymous, and after months of work, he or she has finally completed this masterpiece of a game. If it were up to me, this game would get a Game of the Year award, hands down. Read more after the break...

Cutie Mark Crusade Teaser #2

I swear, this game just gets more and more amazing as it's revealed. Take a look at the trailer and gaze in awe at the sheer awesomeness!

Also, don't let your jaw hit the floor too hard, or you'll have to visit the nearest hospital.

Cutie Mark Crusade Unofficial Mac Port

A couple days ago I created an unofficial Mac OS X port of the Cutie Mark Crusade Demo, and I decided that I might as well post it up here. For those of you who are tired of running the game through the command line and just want to launch it by clicking on an app, here you go!

Download (For Mac OS X): http://www.mediafire.com/?3zhjg7o8yoo2kub

Please note that this port is somewhat unstable, and I have no idea if it works for ponies other then me. Please leave feedback on stability in the comments.

Cutie Mark Crusade Video Preview

The fellows at Manestream Games have released a video update of their upcoming project, Cutie Mark Crusade:A Dash of Adventure. This update showcases Fluttershy's Cottage, as well as the music that will play inside it. It's not much, but I thought it'd be worth posting.

XTUX, out!

Cutie Mark Crusade Demo Release

                                                    Download Here!
Hi everypony!

Development team Manestream Games has unveiled the demo to their new game Cutie Mark Crusade: A Dash of Adventure.  This is a point-and-click game starring-who else-the Cutie Mark Crusaders.  The art style is very detailed and accurate to the show, and the gameplay shows a lot of promise, even at this early stage.  However, this is just a concept demo so it's far from the final product.  If you enjoy it and want to support the team, follow them on Facebook or Twitter.  If you have any critiques, Manestream encourages you to let them know, so post on either of those or send them an email at info@manestreamgames.com.  Check it out now!

Point-and-Click Pony Engine in Progress

Anyone with fond memories of 90's LucasArts adventure games, listen up: Adam "takua108" Rezich is developing a brand new point-and-click engine called PonyQuest.  PonyQuest is designed to allow users to make their own DOS-esque pony adventures that can easily be shared with others.  He's even making the scripting language, which he's dubbed PonyScript, simple to use so even people with no understanding of programming jargon can easily craft their own dialogue and cutscenes.
In just 2 weeks, he's made enough progress to release the preview above...
