Story of the Blanks 3D

Story of the Blanks is a classic short creepypasta fangame made in Adobe Flash by Donitz for a game developing contest here at Equestria Gaming over 10 years ago
ElberthDominguez's 3D interpretation of the game allows you to relive the experience in a new dimension!
The game is currently in beta, so there are some bugs, and the English translation isn't finished, but the whole game can be completed, and there are some neat secrets to discover along the way.

Luna Game 3D

Luna Game 3D Title Screen
Following with our usual tradition, we're quite late in posting this, but boy is this a nostalgia bomb! For those unaware the Luna Game series were seemingly simple platformers at the start, but eventually would lock up, playing creepy music and displaying disturbing imagery. This game concept was then expanded upon in RPG Maker by Hedgehogself and the story was further developed as well.

Luna game 3D is a re-imagining of the series created in the GZDoom engine. In this game you'll meet various character and shall need to traverse through hostile environments where one wrong move could lead to your death.

"Are you skilled enough to survive in this hellish world? That's for you to find out."

Demo Footage of Story of the Blanks HD

Only a couple days after the previous Story of the Blanks HD update comes this new video, featuring two very similar concepts for the game's visual style: the former being more zoomed-in while the latter taking a more effects-heavy approach with a more distant camera and the background being blurred out quite a bit more. I lean more towards the latter myself, although I get the impression that using varying camera distances for different scenes would actually be rather useful for story and atmosphere-related purposes, but if you want to give your own feedback then feel free to comment on their YouTube video and speak your heart out.

Also, you'll be pleased to hear that the team are apparently going to continuing the original, more show-accurate style unless they happen to receive a C&D, a decision which I fullheartedly support.

Story of the Blanks HD Update

After over a year of almost absolute silence from the developers of the Story of the Blanks HD remake, aside from the rare animation preview and occasional snippets of the soundtrack by Kyoga, their head has come forth and confessed that she's essentially paranoid about the possibility of a C&D (nevermind that the vast majority of fangames have never received one, contrary to what your average EqD commenter might tell you) and is really wanting to move to an entirely original style with renamed characters and...ugh. It's almost as if she's forgotten that this is supposed to be a fangame, let alone a remake of a fairly well-known creepypasta, and such a project should be more a labor of love rather than merely an opportunity to make money. Heck, the reason why people were attracted to this project in the first place was because it purported to be an expanded re-imagining of the original game in the same spirit, not some cutesy Power Puff Girls-style romp that just happened to share its title with Story of the Blanks.

Look, I'm sorry if this comes across as rude or anything like that, but this was honestly the one ambitious fangame I was really, really excited to play someday (aside from some quirky projects like Raycord Legends and Curse of the Lost Kingdom), and now it almost looks as if it's all going to go down the drain just because the creator is afraid to accept the necessary chance of a C&D. If you're going to enter the fangame development scene at all you have to take some risks; trying to skirt around the issue by changing names/character designs will only result in people getting upset and a smaller overall playerbase.

Review: Island of Falling Stars

A gameplay screenshot of Island of Falling Stars.

As far as 3D creepypastas go, newcomer Goerge's marathon entry is pretty standard fare: it stars a defenceless Lyra recolour who wanders about her dreamscape and collects glowing rocks, only for things to get progressively worse as she does so. We've seen this before, of course, but does Island of Falling Stars live up to its comrades?

You know the drill.

Review: Muffins.exe (Creepypasta)

Edit (3/21/15): Someone in the comments section said this has a virus in it? I don't care enough to fact-check, so I'm commenting out the link to the download. Feel free to correct if he's wrong. -Red

Today I was sitting around, expecting a creepypasta to show up in our email inbox as they usually do during this time of year, and what do you know? Some "Anonymous" person submits this game titled muffins.exe, created in GameMaker Lite and featuring a gratuitous amount of screamers (thus rendering it very NSFW).

If you intend on playing this, I'd advise that you do so before reading below the break, as the review contains spoilers.

Octavia in the Underworld's Cello

The Underworld's Cello (fixed)

So I knew that I was going to be posting about at least one adventure game today, but to be quite honest with you I was rather surprised when I opened up my deviantART notifications and found a demo for a first-person point & click adventure game right before my eyes. It stars Octavia (duh) and Vinyl, as they venture into a dilapidated mansion after following some poorly-written directions to a Nightmare Night party, and yes, it does run splendidly in Wine once you install dsound. Thing is, it is quite a bit darker than your average pony adventure game, although the fact that it's being released so close to Halloween probably explains that.

Heh heh heh...

Released: Never Heard From Ever Again

Never Heard From Ever Again

Back in August we posted about Never Heard From Ever Again, a weird little first person horror game with the nastiest lolipop-related jumpscare you'll ever see. The full thing was released today on Desura, marking the first time a pony game made it onto the service, but it's $1.99, also giving it the unprestigious "honour" of being the first My Little Pony fangame for the PC platform that is neither free in freedom nor free beer. Mind you, that's not a lot of money, but there are still plenty of people who will probably find this choice in distribution objectionable.

Meanwhile, guess who's too cheap to buy a copy?

Never Heard From Ever Again

Never Heard From Ever Again

Sometimes I question the wisdom of those who choose to develop 3D games in Game Maker, as there are many far better engines suited to the job. Still, that doesn't mean that one can't create a decent 3D fangame in there, as Never Heard From Ever Again hopes to be. I'm not sure if it will achieve that goal as of yet, given that the current version is a short little demo using a placeholder model for the main antagonist, but from what I've seen it isn't all that bad. It does rely a little too much on jumpscares, however, and it seems to have some problems running in Windows 8.

Hopefully we'll get more progress updates in the near future, but in the meanwhile you can download the game in order to get your daily dose of jumpscares. You might also want to check out the README file, as it explains the backstory and whatnot.

Review: A World You Should Not Know

A screenshot of A World You Should Not Know
A World You Should Not Know

A while back some guy over at the My Little Game Dev forums thought it would be funny to make an Equestria Girls game with dubstep, lousy textures, and annoying audio. The resulting project took a mere two days to make, and along the way somehow turned into A World You Should Not Know: a horror game starring Twilight Sparkle as she tries to retrieve the magical crown from...whatever. Sunset Shimmer isn't involved at all: the story is basically just an excuse for the game.

The review continues after the break, as usual.

Teaser: Story of the Blanks HD

Most would agree that Donitz's classic Story of the Blanks is the best creepypasta fangame that this fandom has produced thus far, although a few prefer the Luna Game series for its side effects (changing the desktop background, playing creepy sounds, etc). The game's minimalist, authentic NES graphics left a lot to the player's imagination, and unlike most typical creepypastas it managed to be creepy without having to rely on jumpscares or gory imagery. However, some of us have secretly dreamed of a remake of this classic game, and a fairly unknown group of fans known as Long Tale Animation have decided to take it upon themselves to convert Story of the Blanks from a top-down retraux experience into a high-definition, sidescrolling adventure game.

The teaser video itself doesn't show much gameplay, so there is a lot of room for speculation as to how the final product will turn out. Hopefully the remake doesn't stray too far from the original's roots: it should also be interesting to see how Donitz reacts to this game.

Review:Derp till Dawn

Derp till Dawn

Despite not being nearly as famous as the big name fangame developers, Donitz has had a pretty good run so far with his line of creepy fangames. Story of the Blanks is undoubtedly his most famous creation, while Twilight vs Walking is more remembered for its difficulty than its Twilight Zone-inspired twist at the end. Since according to him "everyone, their mother, their dog and evil clone" had already made a Slender clone he decided to make one himself, and the results can be seen in his newest game "Derp till Dawn".

Dous the humorously unfittingly-titled Derp till Dawn live up to Donitz's other respectable fangames? To find out, head below the break to read our review on it.

Welcome to Ponyville (Lite)

If you've been reading the comments on our website you might have noticed a certain fellow discussing a planned Welcome to Ponyville Flash port, and despite my infamously negative review of the original I encouraged him to go ahead with it. By cutting all the fat sound effects and using indexed colours BlitzProg was able to make the game 200x smaller, and if you want your audio back don't fret because he is almost finished making a bigger version of the game with your music and whatnot (compressed, of course).

So...yeah. This port is not endorsed by FillyGamez in any way, and apparently they are pretty unhappy that it exists. Still, at least if you want to play Welcome to Ponyville it won't be taking up 1GB of valuable hard disk space, eh?

Corruption

You guys never cease to amaze me. Complete with custom animation, creepy musical styling, and some slightly mind-bending visuals, The Oddwarg's Corruption is certainly one of the most colorful games to come out of My Little Game Jam. It's a little shorter than what I'd normally review, and borders on creepypasta, so I held off from grading it. Find the rundown after the break!

Luna Game End (CREEPYPASTA)

One year and a week after the release of Luna Game 0, the creator of the Luna Game series has finally given us another game; the final game of the series: Luna Game End. The name is short but sweet; at long last the true end to the series has been released, but is it all that we could hope for? That’s up to you to decide.

Luna Game End (Luna Game 5) is the direct sequel to Luna Game 4. If you haven’t already played Luna Game, Luna Game 2, Luna Game 3, Luna Game 4, and Luna Game 0, you might want to familiarize yourself with those game now.

Luna Game

Update: Apparently this trailer was a hoax. Ah well, at least the 5th Luna Game should come someday...right?

This appears to be some kind of trailer for an official 5th Luna Game that was sent to us in an email. Mysterious, eh? Time to speculate!

PurpleTinker's Quack Quest

Screenshot
Play it exclusively on the Equestria Gaming Arcade

Usually over at Equestria Gaming we post fangames, not make them. However Xtux was rather bored a couple nights back so he created a cheap fangame starring PurpleTinker, founder of BroNYCon, as she goes around chasing ducks. Why does the woman like ducks so much? Apparently some stupid people over at Memegenerator tried making a forced Purple Tinker meme but it was hijacked by somepony who turned the PT-hating into jokes about ducks. So there's a lesson for future generations: never make a forced meme unless you want it hijacked by trolls.

Anyway, the game can be played exclusively over at our Arcade. Hope you find it at least somewhat amusing. Night!

Luna Game 5 (Creepypasta)

Luna Game 5 (Creepypasta)
Disclaimer: Luna Game 5 is made by a different anonymous author than Luna Games 0-5, and should thus be considered a fan-made spinoff, not an official part of the series.

Recently, I received a very mysterious email from an address of random characters containing a download link for an application called Luna Game 5. I made sure the executable went through a rigorous bout of virus scanning, and after a minute or two of pondering whether or not this is a good idea, I ran the game. Although this is by a different author, it emulates the notorious Luna Game style well, and, after reviewing the source code, I can assure you there is nothing malicious or virus-like about this program, but it sure is creepy.

Spoilers Ahead: If you want to be surprised by this game, download and play it first.

Review: Super Filly Adventure

Play it Here!
A link to the EqG Arcade page.
You may remember the review of SOPA "PIPA" Filly Adventure that we posted on Equestria Gaming after Blackout Day in protest of SOPA and PIPA. Well this game provided the basis for that self-made parody. In Super Filly Adventure, you take the role of a filly named Jade on her mission to find her cutie mark.

Jay6, the creator of Super Filly Adventure, originally created this game for the 16-bit Game Contest on Equestria Gaming that has since fallen by the wayside, unfortunately. This game has become very popular in its own right, however, and a proper review is necessary. Read it after the break!
