Magic Project Friendship Final Version - Arena Mode

Magic Project Friendship — that one with the ponies and the guns, if you forgot — has received an update with the new Arena mode, taking place 2 years before the main story line and putting you in the metaphorical shoes of Bon Bon as she trains to become the leader of the new S.M.I.L.E. under Twilight's rule with her direct supervision.
Please stop looking at me like that. It gives me the feeling that you are really into this.
The story follows Bon Bon working her way up from the bottom to regain her skills as the rightful S.M.I.L.E. leader after losing them during her retirement. The gameplay consists of fighting off waves of enemies in Twilight's Combat Training Program which she stole from Morpheus from the Matrix, a pocket dimension where all enemies and fights and deaths are purely simulations. During these waves your combat skills are tested against increasingly more stacked enemies, and some familiar faces too. Inbetween waves you will go to the armoury to spend your skill points, buy new weapons and recruit ponies into your own squad.
Also the ponies have big funny hats now.

Magic Project Friendship - Trixie Kills Twilight Sparkle

Magic Project Friendship is a new mod of Madness Project Nexus. The mod released... today! This is an Equestria Gaming original!
Don't know what Madness Combat is? That maybe is for the better considering the theme of this site. Basically it's like little gray flour sack-looking ""people"" murdering eachother gruesomely... but now it is ponies.
Anyways.

The plot of the game follows Starlight Glimmer breaking Trixie out of jail after being imprisoned by Twilight for the Alicorn Amulet incident—as all good friends would do, obviously. We follow the two quirky mares safely outside Twilight's chambers where they encounter... changelings? The Mane 6 take note of this and split off to investigate, revealing that numerous of their least favorite villains are back again—despite having been reformed like 12 times before or something—and want REVENGE, WOW THAT IS SO SCARY shivers. They have learned from their previous encounters that the Elements of Harmony aren't very good at shutting up villains, so now guns will do the talking.
It is amidst this chaos that the princess herself, in-between the slaughter, feels inclined to lore-dump—EXPLAIN to us about her new project to make ponies more friendly to eachother, the titular "Magic Project Friendship", a spell which she plans to cast on every creature in and outside Equestria. Surely this won't be a major plot element which we will learn the unpleasant details of later, right. Totally and absolutely, but unfortuntaly Trixie disagrees, as she goes on to investigate on her lonesome the intricacies of this Project, because she just cares oh-oh so much about Equestria (she just wants revenge on Twilight Sparkle).

Pony Joust By Nicky Case On The Arcade + Our Mod!

Pony Joust by nutcasenightmare, now known as Nicky Case is a small HTML5 game in the same vein as Pony Wings from the same creator. You play as Fluttershy scared out of her little wings jousting (the pegasus equivalent of jousting) against Rainbow Dash to knock each other into the mud (or lava)! The game was made in HTML5 to enable modding, so, for you more edgy gamers, we have our own graphical overhaul just for you. Check it out!

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed - Game Complete!

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed is a highly enjoyable RPG that puts you in the horseshoes of Princess Luna, along with our other favorite colorful horse heroes, on a quest to rid Equestria of an ever-growing dark magic threat. It's a ton of fun, and there's a lot of content here, though it may be challenging at times (most likely because I'm bad at games!) I'm around three hours into the game right now, and there's still so much to do!
If this seems like something you'd be interested in, visit the MLP Forums thread for additional information about the game and upcoming updates. We won't be linking to a static build again like we did in our previous article (whoops!), just in case the game changes again.

Adventure Ponies Ported To Atari 8-Bit Computers!

Somehow, this seems to have slipped under pretty much everyone's collective radars and that honestly completely baffles me. We're absolutely fixing that right this instant, though.
To say this is a bit of a surprise is absolutely an understatement! We've got ourselves a genuine port of the official, old-timey Hubworld pony game Adventure Ponies to Atari 8-bit computer line coming to us courtesy of the developer Gibstov. It's super satisfying to see these 8-bit styled games actually working on the appropriate hardware!
All the relevant information, including screenshots and a video of the port in action, can be found at the game's thread at AtariAge. We've also provided these below the break as per usual if you're not interested in poking through the thread! You can also play both the original game and Adventure Ponies 2 on the arcade if you're looking to play the original games, just a heads up!

Friendship is Epic - 1 Hour Gameplay Video

Jyc Row, the composer and French translator for the stunning Japanese 2.5D beat-em-up Friendship is Epic, recently uploaded an hour-long video of a few members of their team playing an internal dev build of the game showing off some new character gameplay, poking around the game's skill tree, showing off the English and French translations of the game and generally putting the smackdown on more than a few changelings. This game's certainly looking like it's coming along pretty nicely, and I'll definitely be personally keeping an eye on this one!

Gem Hunting: Bubbles, Road Trips and Aerial Stunts

While the site's been somewhat prone to...well, the odd total existence failure now and again, Equestria Gaming has nonetheless somehow managed to be around for quite a long time insofar as the fandom as a whole is concerned. Since it was founded in 2011, we've seen a lot of games and game makers come and go, some of which we've covered and some, sadly enough, we haven't. I personally believe it's more than high time that we rectify that! There's plenty of games, large and small, that we've skipped over the years that deserve a mention, and we're going to start rifling through them here and now !
Admittedly, I don't have any specific posting schedule in mind for these, but honestly, isn't that just part of the fun? Let's go!

Game: Cutie Mark Unmagic

Hot on the nonexistent trails of the lack of news about season 5 of that one horse show, futzi01 has another one of those Flash games he always makes. This time, the concept is six minigames centered around one-upping each member of the main cast at some part of their special talents, sending them face-first into crushing show spoilers and the endless wait for more drips of information. If all six of the minigames are beaten in one sitting, your reward is a screen ranting about the excessive commercialization of a show designed primarily to sell toys.

Update: MLP: Revenants of Chaos / Project Dash playable demo

Here we have an update on the progress of MLP: Revenants of Chaos, a promising upcoming adventure platformer clearly inspired in 16-bit era classics. In this game we take on the role of everyone's favourite technicolor flyer, Rainbow Dash, as she runs and flies around Ponyville collecting gems and fruit and avoiding dangerous oranges.

Ponyventure

From what I've seen, this is a fairly generic pony platformer with multiple characters and, surprisingly enough, local multiplayer (although I haven't really gotten the chance to try it out yet, as usual). Dunno if this'll go anywhere or not, but Hopeabandoner's other main fangame project looks much more promising so I'll be posting about it next.

He also made this creepypasta named BENT.EXE, but I dunno if I'll ever get around to posting it.

Super Ethical Shipping Climax Demo

(Tumblr)

Billing itself as a SFW-ish parody of shipping-centric visual novels, the Super Ethical Shipping Climax demo is an awkward jumble of borrowed vectors, annoying placeholder music and plenty of fourth wall-breaking dialogue. This might sound bad, and from several perspectives it leaves a lot to be desired, but to be honest I rather enjoyed this weird little MLGD Marathon entry in spite of (or perhaps partially because of) its shortcomings. Perhaps that's what the developers intended in the first place?

Since this is only a demo there are several missing endings and whatnot, although I hope they leave in several of the blank scenes in which the narrator laments their lack of a visual artist.

Review: Super Lesbian Horse RPG

A gameplay screenshot of Super Lesbian Horse RPG
Super Lesbian Horse RPG

One day Bobby Schroeder decided that she liked shipping cartoon horses enough to warrant creating a silly game about it: Super Lesbian Horse RPG was the result of her labour. Overall awareness of the game spread quickly after its announcement by virtue of its somewhat odd title, along with a rather amusing /mlp/ thread which claimed SLHRPG was something else entirely, and now here we are with the somewhat final product (given that there will probably be several bugfix releases in the near future). Expectations for the project have been fairly high overall, but does it live up to them? For that, dear reader, you will have to read the rest of the review.

Horse Time below the break.

Super Lesbian Horse RPG is Released

Super Lesbian Horse RPG

Yes, it's finally here (and quite late as well, missing its original release date by a whopping 6 months). Quite likely the pony fandom's strangest RPG as of yet, Super Lesbian Horse RPG was created in the spare time of a fairly generic Tumblr user, the type who gets legitimately angry when folks assume his "SFW" game contains pornography based off of the title. Some of the fairly recent additions have been somewhat controversial, sure, but is the rest of the game alright?

...You'll have to find out in the morning, since it's past midnight over here and I'm going to bed.

A Release Date for Super Lesbian Horse RPG

Apparently Super Lesbian Horse RPG is coming out on Christmas Day (Wednesday, in case you haven't checked your calendars yet). Since I just got from watching The Desolation of Smaug and am rather tired, let's just say that words cannot fully describe my excitement so I can get this over with and listen to the Electric Light Orchestra, maybe see if a friend of mine is online at this hour.

Good night!

20% Faster

Some brave anon took it upon himself to delve into /collab/ once more to see if he could find anything worthwhile, and he stumbled across some Korean student's pet project: a 3D engine that he wants to use for a Rainbow Dash game someday. The preview video looks pretty neat for the most part, although until he can find a 3D modeller who is willing to help him this will remain nothing but a fairly nice tech demo. 'Tis a shame, I know, but they're kind of in short supply right now and the majority of the ones I know are already busy working their butts off on Legends of Equestria or their own personal projects.

There's more info about the game on the developer's blog, which can be found at http://bab2min.tistory.com/ (although you'll probably have to run the page through Google Translate, since it's in Korean).

Another Equestria Adventure Demo

The Equestria Adventure title screen
(Ponychan thread)

In an effort to show that his Equestria Adventure fangame (which we posted back in September) is not dead, mpa has released a brand-new demo featuring 4 levels and a boss. The controls still take a while to get used to and the boss is kind of boring, but once you get used to them the demo is quite fun while it lasts. As the game's creator put it on his project's /collab/ thread, "I honestly don't think I'll ever finish this thing, but hopefully this is fun enough to please anyone who has been eagerly waiting".

Meanwhile, these headaches are getting rather annoying...it's been over a month since they started, and I don't know how long they're going to last for.

Pony Amnesia Demo

A group picture of the game's main cast.
For various reasons I don't like posting the release announcement and review of a game right next to each other, and what do you know? Some developer usually happens to conveniently release a demo or something right in between posts, so our readers don't get two articles about the same game in a row. I'm not sure as to why this always happens, but here's a thank-you to Gentlecolt Collaborations for accidentally upholding this odd tradition and treating you all to a brand-new pony visual novel at the same time.

Since this is only a demo I'm not going to put a score on the project or anything, but I might as well put some feedback below the break. Fair enough?

Revenants of Chaos Needs Level Designers

If this trailer is anything to go by, I'd say that Revenants of Chaos captures Rainbow Dash's speed quite well its gameplay, which is uncommon for most platformers with her as a playable character. Ideally, Rainbow Dash shouldn't be content with simply trotting everywhere, but feel free to break out into a run or take to the skies. This isn't always possible, of course, but this project seems to pull it off quite splendidly, partially helped by an original soundtrack by DasDeer. Thing is, right now they could use some level designers, preferably ones who have tried their hands at Mario or Sonic-style levels in the past. If you'd be interested in helping them out, you could send their leader an email at okamikurainya@gmail.com or message them at their #Project-Dash deviantART page.

Of course, this comes a day after I lament the lack of Rainbow Dash platformers which actually let her fly. Figures.

Demo: Equestria Adventure

For various reasons, pegasi in most fangames seem entirely unable to fly. Why is this? It would entirely ruin a platforming game if they could do so, obviously, but no satisfactory in-universe explanation has been produced yet. Equestria Adventure's Ponychan thread makes efforts to solve this conundrum by saying that it takes place in an alternate universe where pegasi cannot fly, but if that were the case then why would they even bother growing wings in the first place? Maybe pegasi are the new penguins or something, I dunno. At least she can still, you know, go fast and all of that stuff, which makes this demo somewhat worthwhile while it lasts.

Speaking of penguins...
