EQG Game Catchup Post (LITE) - Mostly Racing Edition

We have three new games and projects to share with you this week, featuring racing, racing, and Spike.

Before we begin though and, for those who are curious, we still have a big backlog of games to cover, as well as a handful of horror/creepy titles that we'll save for Halloween. We also have a ton of FNF mods that we were hoping to merge into a massive compilation post when the game's new update came out, (but the update was not released on the date given by the FNF developers, and it's already been months with no word on when that's coming out) but we may have to publish the post early!

We try to keep on top of all the games, but sometimes a project might slip through the cracks. If you've got a project you're working on, please feel free to reach out to us!
With that out of the way, let's get started!

Inside Dimensional Shift, the Newest and Different Pony Project!

I was recently given the opportunity to speak with one of the team members of the Dimensional Shift project and was shown some exclusive and extensive material, the most of which I am not supposed to repeat!  So, what exactly is this game about?
The game is a first-person metroidvania with a wii-like, mouse-controlled sword with a strong emphasis on narrative and character development. In the game, you play as Midnight, an alicorn who awakens in Canterlot with no knowledge of who they are or where they came from. Twilight, concerned about the implications of having yet another alicorn, takes you under her wing to keep an eye on you. One day, while working with the princess, this alien-looking armor forms around you, complete with a sword that seems to float without the need of magic. The heads-up display suddently receives a signal from an unknown place, and you and Twilight decide to check it out.
Unlike many of the other high-budget games we've shown in the past, Valiant Studios LLC is taking a very different approach to game design and is currently in pre-production, which includes everything from planning, story writing, game/mechanic design, to vfx testing. Ultimately, this allows for them to safely experiment and build the game without the major consequences of wasting a lot of money, time and resources.
From what I've seen, the gameplay is polished and very fun with a bunch of weird rooms, enemy behaviors, which all experiment with combat mechanics, powerups, physics, weapons and animations, to list a few!
If you're interested in supporting development of the game you can send a few bits their way over on Ko-fi or patreon, and if you want to learn more about the game or perhaps even join the team, you can check out their Discord server!

Ambient.White – Story Demo Released

The Ambient game project has made significant progress in the last few months, releasing many news updates and, most recently, a new playable game demo that you can download.
However, due to high ambitions and a lack of resources, it appears that the team is putting this project on hold for a few years to work on smaller games that can be done quickly and more reasonably. For Ambient.White, they hope and expect to have a release date some time in 2025, once the team has had time to properly grow and mature.
Visually, the game looks stunning, and both the project and the team have undergone some big changes over the years, so I'd highly recommend checking it out to see how it has evolved!
You can check out the gameplay video on their YouTube channel, or download the game from their website and try it out for yourself.
You can also check out their update video for more information and to learn about their new future goals.

Sonic and the Elements of Harmony

Sonic and the Elements of Harmony is a 2D Sonic Fan-game that crosses over with the animated television series we all know and love. It focuses on both classic and modern gameplay elements of a Sonic game and was created in Game Maker Studio 2.3. Originally showed off at the 2021 Sonic Amateur Game Expo, this game has seen a number of improvements and additions, such a Twilight Sparkle as a new playable character, a new stage and some new In-Game dialogue.

Battle Gem Ponies End-of-Year DevLog Update!

The creators of Battle Gem Ponies appears to have recently published their End-of-Year DevLog update and, as an added bonus, have prepared their own press release for this, which I certainly won't complain about! Find it below:
___
After chipping away at development tools and setup behind the scenes, the Yotes Games team is back with an (admittedly late) update on what we've been up to!
In short, things like new scenery, a debugged overworld, and more videos breaking down specific mechanics can be expected as we charge full-speed ahead into the next year.
The team is thankful for how far we've been able to get this year with the help of the Kickstarter, and we're looking forward to fulfilling the promise of a truly awesome video game experience!

Story of the Blanks 3D

Story of the Blanks is a classic short creepypasta fangame made in Adobe Flash by Donitz for a game developing contest here at Equestria Gaming over 10 years ago
ElberthDominguez's 3D interpretation of the game allows you to relive the experience in a new dimension!
The game is currently in beta, so there are some bugs, and the English translation isn't finished, but the whole game can be completed, and there are some neat secrets to discover along the way.

EQG Game Catchup Post - The Sequel

Horse game roundup, horse game rounduuuup~

Hey guys! Welcome to Equestria Gaming, the site where you can find all the information regarding pony fan games (eventually).  During the past two months, the fandom has been busy creating new works for you all to enjoy! Join us after the break where we'll be taking a look at new game releases and updates.

My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed

Well look at that, we're actually posting something in a timely manner!
It looks like we've got a new RPG on the scene! My Little Pony: Harmony Eclipsed is an incredibly fun Final Fantasy-esque game that puts you in the regal horseshoes of Princess Luna (and featuring our other familiar pastel horse protagonists, of course!) on a quest to rid Equestria of a ever-growing dark magic threat, taking place sometime after the end of Season 3. While there's occasional bits of placeholder dialogue or assets as the game is still unfinished, overall there's a surprising amount of game here for something only getting more widespread public attention now, and I still have a decent chunk of game left to go through after clocking roughly two hours with it!
If this sounds like something up your alley, check out the game's thread on MLP Forums linked above for more information and future updates. We've also pasted the relevant information and the download link for this release below the break if that's more your speed!

Day Dreaming Derpy Demo v0.4 - The Scootaloo Update

We're once again a little slow on the draw (and a little slower than usual at that, admittedly), but that certainly does not and will not impede our enjoyment of posting a new Day Dreaming Derpy update! Keeping things short this time, the developer promises two new dreams to play around in, and as the title suggests, the inclusion of Scootaloo as a playable character, which also means that all three of the Cutie Mark Crusaders are now playable! They also note that this is likely to be the last major update before the release of the full game, as that's predicted to be just around the corner!
Download the latest update at the source above, or check back here later when we're able to update our downloadable mirror of the game. Sweet dreams, sleepy horses!

H-SWilliams' Animated Pony Creator

I'm not entirely sure what's up with the recent influx of pony creators, but I'm not complaining! This time around, we've got one that's centered around creating a pony that dances, and appropriately enough allows you to save your 100% Certified Original Prancing Machines as gifs, for use in whatever possible situation these kinds of images would apply. There's a decent selection of mane, tail and eye styles (though I still had trouble recreating my own pastel horse), though users should beware the occasional display bug with the color selectors and other inputs.

Lyra's List #18 & The Future of Lyra's List

Well, ladies and gents, we tried. Unfortunately, we're just not receiving a workable amount (read: usually any) of submissions for Lyra's List, and that combined with what we've seen in the comments from the two previous entries, has led us to decide to shelve these posts indefinitely. We've concluded that, simply put, the fandom at-large and the horsegamedev scene itself just isn't active enough to warrant these dedicated posts anymore; there's just not enough signal nowadays for these smaller projects and ideas to be lost in the noise like they used to.
Honestly, though, we feel that this is actually a good thing in a way, as all active projects can now get their "help wanted" posts on our front page without need for competition or compilation posts to catch what we'd otherwise miss. Not to mention this frees up some small resources for and gives us all the more drive to add other site projects somewhere down the line!
So, with all that said, down below is the totality of what we've received over the past two entries, and to their submitters we extend our deepest thanks for participating! Happy developing!

Legends of Equestria Open Access Release - Date & Trailer

Well, would you look at that! After a long, long time in development, the Legends of Equestria team appears to finally be ready to fully open the game up to the public! With the drop of what they call the "Open Access Release" on August 19th, 2017, the game will (as the name suggests) be available to anyone and everyone at any time, finally putting those blink-and-you'll-miss-it limited access periods to rest. Check out the trailer for the release above, as well as the more detailed announcement post on their forum for more information!
Oh, and please note that this is not the "final" version/release of the game; the team intends to continue adding to the game over time, and will still be actively in-development!

Daring Do: Origins Project Looking for Help

Daring Do: Origins is a 3D action-adventure game, set before the events of Nightmare Moon's escape and although little has been shown thus far, the game is quite ambitious. The game is said to feature frenetic platform action, stealth functions, RPG elements and multiple playable characters. However, the project currently is a one-man team, and is looking for help make this game a reality.

ManeQuest's "Pony Dream Maker"

We're just the tiniest bit late in getting to this one (how shocking), but hey, we got there! Looks like the developers behind the game ManeQuest have given the fandom yet another neat little colorful horse creator, this time with a nice looking (those eyes are a bit creepy though, tbh) pixel art style that's just a tad more...er, "artsy-looking," I suppose, than the similar pixel-style creator for Pony Town.
While I haven't had the time to dive into this one personally, it appears that from the looks of the ponies posted by folks in the comments on the game's DA page and elsewhere, this'd be the creator to go with if you felt the need to create your own Personal Pixel Poner™!
6/20/17: So I've finally had a little bit of time to check this out for myself, and I figured I'd edit in a more developed opinion (I'm not a fan of posting things before I've had a chance to test them out). It's not bad, but it is a little lackluster considering there's no actual game attached to it yet. Additionally, I think I'm definitely more partial towards Pony Town's creator insofar as comparisons go, mostly because Pony Town offers more customization options (which is handy if you're aiming to recreate your Donut Steels from tip to toe), plus that game's ponies are just generally cuter, haha.

NIA: Path of Light Teaser Trailer Released

Despite some rather interesting developmental delays and other issues (not what you'd expect, to say the least) over the past few months, it appears that the team behind the 3D point-and-click adventure NIA: Path of Light has gotten things back on track! To that end, they've released this rather neat looking little teaser trailer for the game; while it doesn't actually show any gameplay, it's definitely interesting enough to watch and proves a nice sign of life from the project as a whole. Check it out above!

2D Fallout Equestria Game - Update 0.5 Released

After an admittedly stupidly long time of missing out on posting updates on this game for one reason or another, here we are! For the uninitiated, empalu's take on a Fallout Equestria game, as seen above, takes the form of a 2D side-scrolling shooter, and even at this early stage is looking incredibly impressive and actually manages to capture something resembling a Fallout-esque feel. As for what exactly the 0.5 update changes, a Google Translate pass over the entire Russian changelog suggests changes and tweaks aplenty: the beginnings of a story mode, assorted map changes, in-game map transitions, updates to how enemies and how they spawn, and way more than we can reasonably fit in a post!
That all said, there's nothing better than experiencing the game for yourself! Click the link above and try braving the adorable-yet-dangerous tiny horse wasteland, fellow wanderer!
Nota bene: our sincerest apologies to empalu for all of the delays in getting a post about this lovely game out! We've meant to for the longest time, but it just kept slipping through the cracks in one way or another for a variety of reasons. We love you!

Day Dreaming Derpy Applebloom Update - Demo v0.3

Here we are again. Another update for the beautiful RPG Adventure, Day Dreaming Derpy has just been released. This time around we have reached version 0.3 with the Applebloom update.
It has been just about three months since the last update, the Sweetie Belle update, already extending this gorgeous demo with new characters, dreams, town areas, etc. A lot of water has run under the bridge and this new version is with even more content, stores, costumes, dreams, areas and so on, as well as providing a few bug fixes, like balancing the beatbox skill I recall being terribly overpowered. All the details are provided in the changelog provided below, as well as downloadables.

Lyra's List #17-2 HD Remaster

Admittedly, trying to go for two of these within a short timespan wasn't the most...well, intelligent way to have gone about this, haha. Kinda figured that it might help get the ball rolling a little quicker if Lyra's List hit the front page more often. Turns out that's not quite enough time for folks to pull something together per list. Oops. So, that said, we've combined what we had for the last list with the stuff for this list down below (hence the title!), and we'll just proceed with the List's original monthly schedule from here on out. Submissions for the next Lyra's List are open until June 30th , and we can't wait to see what you fine folks come up with next! Happy developing!

Lyra's List #17

While admittedly it might not have a whole lot to start with, the new Lyra's List is finally here! I have to say, we're super psyched here behind the scenes to finally get the ball rolling on such a major site feature again. Do keep in mind, though, that we can only keep that ball rolling so as long as you submit something; that said, submissions for the next Lyra's List are open until May 31st , so get to it! Check out this issue's submissions below the break, and happy developing!

"Gentlecolts" Dev Group Revived, Seeking Members

It appears that the development group behind the fangame "Pony Amnesia: Love and Mysteries" has come back from the dead; and not only that, they're seeking quite a few folks of different talents to fill their ranks! Check out the supplied information below, and be sure to get in touch with them if you're interested!
The Gentlecolts group is creating an MLP romance visual novel/dating simulator. We were dead for quite a while before reviving the project in January of this year, getting a HUGE response, over 100 people joined our discord (discord.gg/KFZRgew) and we can finally announce that we have a team and can start working on the game! We're officially back in business! The team is quite small however, and we would REALLY like more members so that it won't take years to complete the game. Are you interested? Would you like to help us? Here's some details on what we are looking for:
Writers : We need writers able to write in proper English, with good grammar, little to no misused words, missing, incorrect or overused punctuation, able to follow a format, that has some skill in dialogue, and that would like to work on the genre of the game, slice of life, romance, and probably comedy. Someone who can come up with storylines and convincing social and romantic situations involving the Main characters in the show. We don't need dark and gritty writers, or people who write huge adventures and such, 'cause it's out of the scope of the game.
Sketchers : Skilled most importantly in expressions and a bit in poses, as several times they'll need to do floating heads, just showing a different expression. Doesn't matter what you do the sketches on, and they don't need impressive detail, but also can't be stick figures. While they don't need to be carbon copies of the show style, they still need to be mostly show-like to facilitate work to vector artists.
Vector Artists : They need to be able to make their vectors look as show-accurate as possible, and when translating the sketch, they don't have to follow the sketch to a T, but make it as truthful to the show as possible, fixing any errors, detail or style related issues in the sketch. There'll be certain guidelines to follow with all the artists to have a more consistent style and make it as less distinguishable as possible between the different artists in play, and all vectors must be presented in SVG files.
Background Artists : Again, we need vector artists that can be show-accurate, but in this case, most backgrounds will be the same as the show, and will most likely not need to use sketches and instead, have references and bases from show screenshots and such to draw. Most likely will have to do some of the Mane 6's houses inside and outside, as well as some key-points of Ponyville and not much else.
Coders : We could optionally use an assistant coder/script translator, preferably familiar with Ren'Py (or competent enough to get the gist fast), to help with various tasks. Proofreaders and Spellcheckers: We might also have use of people good at spotting aforementioned errors that can happen in writing, to help ease the burden and not require multiple checks by every writer. We would much prefer competent writers, but if you just want to help a little bit this could be an option.

We could also fill in other roles such as sound or PR... just drop by our discord and say hello, we can figure out what you can help us with!
