EQG Game Catchup Post (LITE) - Mostly Racing Edition

We have three new games and projects to share with you this week, featuring racing, racing, and Spike.

Before we begin though and, for those who are curious, we still have a big backlog of games to cover, as well as a handful of horror/creepy titles that we'll save for Halloween. We also have a ton of FNF mods that we were hoping to merge into a massive compilation post when the game's new update came out, (but the update was not released on the date given by the FNF developers, and it's already been months with no word on when that's coming out) but we may have to publish the post early!

We try to keep on top of all the games, but sometimes a project might slip through the cracks. If you've got a project you're working on, please feel free to reach out to us!
With that out of the way, let's get started!

Ponykart, its future, and you

The long thought dead project, Ponykart, is, thankfully, not actually dead, as previously thought. It has come to our attention that a new team has formed to continue the massive undertaking of developing a 3D kart-racing game featuring our favourite horses of friendship. It is not currently clear (at least to us) how much progress has been made, but it seems the team is really motivated in doing it, even if it's a path full of obstacles.
As of now, the team is having some public relations issues, as the official Ponykart forum had a severe failure, leading to the loss of the past years messages and whatnot. The team is not in a state to release anything "visible", like a video or some screenshots, which only adds to the feeling of negligence.
Despite all this, the game is still being developed, and the developers deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts. You can also read more about the situation directly from one of the team members as he/she posted in a thread over at the MyLittleGameDev forum.

Equestria Racing

Here we have Equestria Racing, which appears to be some sort of ponified Superman 64 clone minus the beat 'em up sections and kryptonite fog. I do have some rather mixed-feelings about it so far, but hopefully the final product will manage to make for it by throwing in some interesting locations to fly around in and whatnot.

I've embedded some of the previous development updates below the break as well, in case you're interested in seeing those.

Ponykart Looking for 3D Modelers

Rainbow Dash's kart design.
Ponykart

Work on the Ponykart C++ port seems to be progressing smoothly, if at a rather slow pace, but it seems that they still have a shortage of 3D modelers (a problem seemingly shared by many FOSS games). The fandom does seem to have a distinct lack of those as well, sadly, but if you happen to have some experience with 3DS Max and/or Blender and would like to contribute to the community in some way or another, this is probably an almost perfect opportunity for you to get some practice and should look pretty good on your résumé.

I wasn't told exactly where interested applicants were supposed to apply for the position, so you might as well just do so at the recruitment thread if you feel like it, which can be found at http://ponykart.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=dqbg1ss4oeajnblv8k3b5g44f0&topic=52.

Ponykart is Recruiting

Some Ponykart concept art

I've been waiting for an opportunity to give Ponykart's unofficial revival project some more exposure for a while now, and now the time has finally come. You see, they're looking for some C++ programmers who also have some experience in C# to help them with the port, along with the usual graphics designers, musicians, and even writers (although I still have no idea why a kart racer would need people dedicated to the latter, especially since characters in said games rarely speak).

Interested? Check out their announcement for details on the requirements and how to submit an application, or just read the copypasted version below the break. You might also want to check out their Google Group and GitHub repo.

Ponykart Officially Dead

(GitHub mirror) (Another one)

Much to the surprise of absolutely no-one, a post released yesterday by Hoppip states that the once incredibly-promising Ponykart project is now completely dead, as most of the team members went on to become professional programmers/game developers and no longer had any time for fangames. It's quite a shame, yes, but at least the source code is still freely available, so anybody with some C# experience can pick up and resume where the developers left off (as some anon on /mlp/ is currently attempting to do, although I kind of doubt he'll get very far).

(April Fools) Super Bieber Racer

This article was written for April Fools 2013 and is not meant to be taken seriously. At all.

Justin Bieber (the world's greatest singer) has long deserved a decent fangame, but even his incredible fanbase has been unable to solve this...until now. Well-renowned fangame developer Penta Studios has come bursting forth from the closet on this fabulous spring day to bring us Super Bieber Racer, which is undoubtedly the greatest Justin Bieber fangame to ever come out of the internets, and far better than those lousy kissing simulators.

Oh yeah, and there are several ponies in the game. Fighting is Magic also makes a cameo, as does yours truely.

Ponykart Update Video #3

Yet another Ponykart update video has been released, and unlike that last time they're not kidding! It shows off some new character models, AI karts, Applejack's new kart, the work-in-progress Whitetail Woods track, and some redesigned vegetation. If you're following the Ponykart project this video update is well worth viewing, and I eagerly anticipate more previews from the dev team. So go on and watch it!

PonyKart Update Video #1

The developers of PonyKart have released another amazing video, showcasing some of their most recent changes to the game and some rather nice-looking concept art. It's quite interesting, and I must say that they are making great progress on their game. PonyKart is shaping up to be an amazing game, and I for once can't wait for it to be finished.

Also, if you want you can compile it from source and play it, although it's not recommended as PonyKart is still quite buggy.

MLP:Rise of Visis Rainbow Dash Gameplay Footage

MLP:Rise of Vicis has released a video update featuring Rainbow Dash. I have to say, while it looks fairly promising, it looks like the team could really use a graphics designer. Also, I still think that it's too early to show off yet (even if they do need team members), and they should wait until they're a bit further along then they are right now.

Ponykart

Usually, when an amazing pony-related video game project that knocks everybody's socks off is revealed (finished or not), we are among the first to know about it. However, at times they manage to slip under everybody's radar, and when we finally notice it, we feel immensely embarrassed for not paying any attention to it, or not even knowing of it's existence. This is one of those times. While various MLP:FiM kart racing games have popped up (none of which are yet released), Ponykart is the most well-polished karting game we've ever seen, and I have high hopes for it.

For more information on Ponykart, check after the break!
