Oops - EQG Game Catchup Post

Hello again, folks! So, in typical Equestria Gaming fashion, we took a short break on news, thinking there wouldn't be much to report on in that time. Sorry about that, feel free to direct all hate emails over to me. Today we've got a whopping fifteen game releases and/or updates,  so please make yourselves comfortable while we go over the lengthy list after the break!

D'lirium - Steam Early Access

After putting years of love and effort into it, B52 Development Team is proud to present D'lirium, a top town action adventure game with horror elements. It has a neat retro artstyle with great music and ambiance and many unique environments to explore. Recently it has been released on steam as early access and with the game already having so much content and the promise of further expansions and updates, it's well worth your purchase!

Description:
A powerful unicorn, whose soul had been consumed by the Darkness, dooms the world to the endless suffering. The main character sets off for the journey, his goal is to find a Pandemoniun - the place where the greatest of all evils resides. He must stop the unicorn and banish the Darkness back to Hell.
D'lirium is an experimental 2D-shooter with the elements of a horror game. The game brings together some mechanics back from 90s classics, such as a search for the keys, non-linear levels and a lot of other things. Moreover, the game contains a lot of experimental tricks, such as random events, non-traditional controls for a shooter game, etc.
Please note that the default control scheme is quite buggy, I highly suggest you change it to shooter mode for the best experience

2D Fallout Equestria Game - Update 0.5 Released

After an admittedly stupidly long time of missing out on posting updates on this game for one reason or another, here we are! For the uninitiated, empalu's take on a Fallout Equestria game, as seen above, takes the form of a 2D side-scrolling shooter, and even at this early stage is looking incredibly impressive and actually manages to capture something resembling a Fallout-esque feel. As for what exactly the 0.5 update changes, a Google Translate pass over the entire Russian changelog suggests changes and tweaks aplenty: the beginnings of a story mode, assorted map changes, in-game map transitions, updates to how enemies and how they spawn, and way more than we can reasonably fit in a post!
That all said, there's nothing better than experiencing the game for yourself! Click the link above and try braving the adorable-yet-dangerous tiny horse wasteland, fellow wanderer!
Nota bene: our sincerest apologies to empalu for all of the delays in getting a post about this lovely game out! We've meant to for the longest time, but it just kept slipping through the cracks in one way or another for a variety of reasons. We love you!

Fighting is Magic MEGA Developer Receives Cease & Desist

Unfortunately, there's a very common truth in this fandom that not all news is good news, the case in point today being us seeing the announcement of the (what I believe to be, anyway) first major Cease & Desist order of 2017 landing squarely on the virtual doorstep of the lead developer of the popular Fighting is Magic fork MEGA, as this video from the variant's official YouTube channel explains.
For those unaware, from what I gather (having not been the hugest Fighting is Magic fan to begin with) this version was a relatively well known variant based on the old Tribute Edition popular for having been one of the more "complete" versions of the game in terms of the ever-so-slightly expanded character roster, updated graphics and general gameplay tweaks and fixes.
That's about all there is to say on this one, so check out the aforementioned announcement video above for more details if you're interested.

Unofficial Fighting is Magic: Tribute Edition Test Build Released

Admittedly we're a day late and a dollar short on getting this one out there, but considering the video for this came out in, like, September apparently, I guess we're not the only ones, haha! Keeping it short, an unofficial build of Fighting is Magic: Tribute Edition has recently cropped up which is a little more advanced/polished/developed/your-adjective-of-choice-here than the previous release. From the description given to Equestria Daily (credit for the initial report!) and the video itself, it includes some new graphic work done for the stages and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy's sprites. Not to mention a whole new playable character in Trixie! Neat!
Download links for the test build and the netplay client are provided in the caption, so go on and have yourself a few colorful horse fights!

Ponykart, its future, and you

The long thought dead project, Ponykart, is, thankfully, not actually dead, as previously thought. It has come to our attention that a new team has formed to continue the massive undertaking of developing a 3D kart-racing game featuring our favourite horses of friendship. It is not currently clear (at least to us) how much progress has been made, but it seems the team is really motivated in doing it, even if it's a path full of obstacles.
As of now, the team is having some public relations issues, as the official Ponykart forum had a severe failure, leading to the loss of the past years messages and whatnot. The team is not in a state to release anything "visible", like a video or some screenshots, which only adds to the feeling of negligence.
Despite all this, the game is still being developed, and the developers deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts. You can also read more about the situation directly from one of the team members as he/she posted in a thread over at the MyLittleGameDev forum.

Pinkie's Hyperactive Chat is Shutting Down

Due to a lot of its moderators losing interest and real life getting in the way of development, the current owner of Pinkie's Hyperactive Chat has decided to pull the plug on his web-based MMO by the end of the week, much to the chagrin of its active playerbase. It's quite a shame, I know, but at least Lordcerii has the decency to wait until sometime around Friday evening to shut it down, giving players a chance to exchange contact information so they can keep in touch after the end if they so desire.

The original announcement can be found here.

Ponykart Officially Dead

(GitHub mirror) (Another one)

Much to the surprise of absolutely no-one, a post released yesterday by Hoppip states that the once incredibly-promising Ponykart project is now completely dead, as most of the team members went on to become professional programmers/game developers and no longer had any time for fangames. It's quite a shame, yes, but at least the source code is still freely available, so anybody with some C# experience can pick up and resume where the developers left off (as some anon on /mlp/ is currently attempting to do, although I kind of doubt he'll get very far).

The original post can be found at http://ponykart.net/we-ded/.

Review: Daring Do Demo

Why review an older game that never reached completion? Bear with me for five minutes.

Don't get put off by the "demo" label - although it may not update again, Alexmakovsky's Daring Do: the Flash Game already has some serious meat to it. Daring Do's the perfect candidate for an adventure platformer, but for some reason she doesn't star in many games - making this one that much more unique. But can the game live up to it's promise? Find out after the break.

Budding Friendship Hiatus + Source Code Release

While listening to Budding Friendships' soundtrack it suddenly occurred to me that we hadn't heard from the developers since October, so I decided to look at their website. Turns out that their dev team kicked the bucket a couple days ago, but their programmer was nice enough to actually release the source code on GitHub before they made the announcement. If anypony wants to contribute to the program they most certainly can, although I somehow doubt that it will get much further.

Anyhow, if you really want to you can compile and play the game for yourself over at the GitHub project page. As of now the project is Windows-only and in an incomplete state (obviously), but somepony might be able to port the game to OS X or Linux if they wanted. Come to think of it that would be an excellent way of attracting more contributors...

Game: Everwinter

Ponies and city-building strategy? Well, now I've seen everything. Actually, knowing you guys, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Everwinter features some impressive city-building gameplay, and is definitely worth a playthrough - but at the moment, it's also in dire need of an artistic team. Have at it!

Edit: For some reason, IntenseDebate is filtering comments containing the link to the My Little Game Dev Christmas Typhoon thread on which this game was posted. The thread can be found here.

Rainbow Dash Brawl Mod Trailer & Beta

So, I know you guys like Super Smash Bros. Brawl built around ponies - how about ponies inserted into Brawl? Spearheaded by turbobear, this project currently includes several skins for Rainbow Dash (including Scootaloo and WonderBolt) and a variety of moves. While it's far from finished, you can download the current build here.

The project is currently in growth mode: the team is looking for an animator, a modeler, and an additional code monkey to finish up Dash and begin work on the rest of the Mane 6. If you're interested, or just want to follow the project, the official thread can be found here. Have fun!

Super Smash Ponies Update #3

Zilven Sparkle and the team behind Super Smash Ponies have decided to scrap their current work and start from scratch - so that they can make the game bigger and better than ever! Looks like Fighting is Magic may have some competition to look out for. Screenshots of the new look after the break!

Super Smash Ponies

Everyone loves Fighting Is Magic - however, not everyone was raised by the Street Fighter series. For some of us, our first and fondest memories of side-scrolling brawlers will always belong to Super Smash Bros. Fortunately, we at Equestria Gaming only feed our armada of caged game developers when they're hard at work. At their current rate, we're on track to ponify every major game release since Pong by 2018.

For his latest project, Fluttershy77 (Zilven Sparkle) is hard at work on a ponified, pixelated version of the classic. We're still waiting for a playable release, but he's recorded several more trailers on his channel. The project looks promising - so far, we've seen final smashes and some basic bot fighting - so go check it out!

Luna's Quest Help Needed!

Luna's Quest
Surprisingly enough adventure games are a rarity in this fandom, and until recently the only existing MLP adventure game was the stunning Cutie Mark Crusade: A Dash of Adventure (which has sadly been put on hold). Thankfully this one bloke and his sister decided to do something about it and created an adventure game titled Luna's Quest with the Adventure Game Studio engine. Together they managed to complete a decent portion of the game along with some rather impressive pixel art for the cutscenes, but it turns out that the workload is too great and apparently they could use a couple pixel artists to help with the level backgrounds and field sprites. If you are interested in helping then send  them an email over at mariobud@gmail.com.

Part of me wanted to include this in the last Lyra's List, but then I realized that it was far enough into development to warrant its own post. Have an outdated gameplay video after the break!

My Little Pump It Up Project

As far as I know, My Little Pump it Up is the only fan-made project dedicated to ponifying StepMania 5 - which, to be honest, sounds pretty cool. Maybe this could be the next convention gaming staple.

The team is creating the interface more or less from scratch, but they need money to purchase a machine in order to show off the beta at BronyMexiCON. Head over to their site to check out the project or donate!

Pony Room Open Beta

A little over two months ago we posted about a rather interesting project that was intended to function as both a chat program and a multiplayer deathmatch game. Back then the guy was wanting developers and just released a video of Pony Room, but now he's released the game as an open beta for you guys to fiddle around with. At the moment it's pretty limited and has some humorous issues (falling off the map anypony?), but I am of the opinion that it might just be worth checking out. After all the guy really could use some feedback, eh?

(Yet Another) Pinkie Pie Platformer Preview

This is the gameplay footage of yet another Pinkie Pie platformer. It's probably never going to be released as it was just a test by the author, but I decided to post it anyways (partially to avoid possibly offending the author). If enough people give the bloke feedback he might consider developing it into a fully-fledged fangame that you can actually play, even though we're already having trouble keeping track of all these near-identical games already. Yes, there's a couple really good ones out there, but who really wants an overload of one specific type of game, eh (I'm looking at you, CoD fans)?

Pony On the Moon/Parasprite Invaders

Pony On the Moon screenshot

Pony On the Moon and Parasprite Invaders are two unfinished Java games. The first one is a gravity-based platformer starring Luna, who has been trapped on the moon yet again. In order to survive she must eat, and somepony has conveniently left some muffins drifting around. You'd think that she would also need an oxygen supply if she requires food, but then again this is just a fun platformer that could really use a dedicated artist.

The second game is a simple asteroids clone, except instead of a spaceship you control Twilight's horn, and in place of asteroids you get parasprites. Again, it's in an early state and once again shows that programmers in general are terrible artists, but if you somehow managed to get bored of Waiting is Magic (which we reviewed earlier) then this might be a fun little time waster.

If you want to play these two games you can find Pony On the Moon at http://ponies-in-space.appspot.com/ while Parasprite Invaders is located at http://ponies-in-space.appspot.com/paraspriteinvaders.html. Have fun!

Pony Room

A while back I was able to play an early version of a game called Pony Room, which was a fairly basic online chat-centered game made with Flash. I didn't post anything on it at the time, but now the author has put up a brief preview of the game and I no longer have any excuse to refrain from posting this.

And yes, I know it looks rather plain and boring (and frankly the preview doesn't demonstrate that much), but the creator is wanting some help with this game of his(namely testers, animators and coders). In case you're interested you can email him at serger100@gmail.com to apply.
